Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rogers Healy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rogers, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I first started my real estate career, it was only me as a realtor. I was still in college, so I was beginning to learn the ins and outs of residential real estate. When I graduated college, I joined two large brokerages that helped me continue to learn in my early career. After some time at those brokerages, I decided to branch off and work independently. From there, I was inspired to build my own team.
Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate is the largest independently owned brokerage in Texas. I saw the opportunity to develop a large team under my own leadership because it was something that nobody else was doing at the time. I had faith that I could build a team around myself of individuals who shared my vision. I was very inspired to teach others and introduce them to the career in real estate that I was blessed to have.
After building Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate, I decided to expand my business. I realized very early on that the easiest way to make money and be successful is to provide a service. From this realization, Healy Global and Healy Property Management were born. Healy Global specializes in relocation services, including real estate moving, storage, and furnishing. They help to connect our agents with qualified agents and service providers from our preferred list of vendors. Healy Property Management is a Dallas based residential and commercial property management firm. The goal here is to make rental property ownership as stress free as possible. To put it simply, these two companies provide convenience.
Soon after, I developed Rogers Healy and Associates Commercial Real Estate which is now one of the largest commercial real estate brokerages in Texas.
My idea to expand my companies excited me because it gave me the opportunity to provide a full service experience, from the moment you buy the property to how you live in it. I felt as though I was solving a problem of having to work with multiple different companies for the real estate and moving process. I’ve discovered that this unique approach makes people’s lives easier, which is an aspect of life that I have always found joy pursuing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in Corpus Christi, moved to San Antonio as a child, and then made my final Texas stop in Dallas in the early 1990s. From day one, I’ve always looked for opportunities to network, learn and work hard.
Rogers’ real estate launched back in 2001, while I was an undergrad at Southern Methodist University and I saw the need for fellow students to get assistance when looking for off-campus housing.
After a few years of learning the business of real estate and finding the holes to fill, I launched Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate in 2006. Determination and energy proved to be the perfect ingredients for getting RHA launched, and even still, that’s the approach.
I’ve been blessed to have found success in business, especially in the world of real estate. That’s always rewarding, but the truest joy I experience is with my people. Seeing them grow, watching them learn and being a part of their lives gives me a sense of impact and a full heart. No deal will ever replace that.
Shockingly enough, real estate isn’t my passion. Music is. I have always been obsessed with music and collecting music memorabilia. Checkout @RogersMusicTour on Instagram. From a young age I started collecting one of a kind pieces from my favorite artists around the world and eventually it became a part of my life. I now have one of the largest collections in the world. The most rewarding thing about this is sharing it with my beautiful wife, Abby. We are welcoming our first child, a baby girl, into the world in May and sharing this passion with the two of them together will be the cherry on top.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was in high school, sports were never my thing. I always admired athletes and their respective sports, but never had the athleticism to compete. One day in high school, I decided to join the football team since there were no tryouts and they didn’t make cuts. Needless to say, that path didn’t work out for me but I was so glad that I tried. Trying and failing is an extremely important part of learning how to navigate your career. From there on out, I made the decision to become a mental champion rather than an athlete.
I used to be obsessed with this shirt I had from the No Fear brand in the 90s. It had a Wayne Gretzky quote on it that said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Even though I was never the cool guy in high school, I made an effort to mentally encourage myself. I learned from an early age that you are your own worst enemy.
Soon after high school, I began my undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University. I realized that I had an interest in real estate, and began pursuing my license. I failed the test 22 times. If that is not a testament to resilience, I am not sure what is. I am a go-getter by nature, but it definitely took some grit to keep trying. Being resilient is necessary to finding and maintaining success.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I started my real estate career while I was a college student. In 2001, I was a student at Southern Methodist University. Growing up in both Dallas and Highland Park, I had the advantage of knowing the neighborhood and those surrounding it. I’ve never had a problem doing the work others didn’t want to do. Everyone needs a place to live, so I found a way to help my friends at SMU, whether they were renting their first apartment, or buying their first condo.
Helping friends gave me my passion for being in real estate. Little did I know that 20 years later I would have developed that side hustle into a full time career! The feeling of helping someone find a home gave me a rush, and I still feel that rush on a daily basis. I am extremely lucky to have based a career on helping others.
