We were lucky to catch up with Roger Ribeiro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Roger, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I would have liked to have started my career later just for the sake of maturity, when we understand the true paths to take, how we should make certain choices, everything becomes lighter. When we are young we are gripped by anxiety and often stumble along the journey.
Roger, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the industry at the age of 7 in Brazil, I worked for years with fashion shows, commercials and theater plays. My family never had the resources to invest in my study so I always worked two jobs to pursue my dream, I am very proud of my career and I want more, today I am a Jury and Curator of International Festivals and I have 8 international awards besides the honorable mentions.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Practically all the stories of my life are resilient, but the most recent one attributes my arrival in the United States, during the Covid-19 pandemic, I created together with my partner a webseries that won us several international awards, with this movement I was eligible for apply for an extraordinary skills visa to work in the United States, to get this visa you need to show Immigration and the American government that there is no actor with my skills in the country, after 1 year and three months of much anxiety I received approval, it was beautiful, my family and I cried because we were very committed to it, not to mention the challenge of starting over in another country.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The world needs a great culture and art to evolve, share stories, generate emotions and thoughts with engaging and inspiring stories guide society, I really like to tell mine, for example, with 5 days in the United States I entered one of the biggest studios in the world, Universal Studios where I work as an actor in the Horror Nights season (2023). That’s why I always talk on my networks to follow their dreams, persist and not give up because their time has come.
