Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roger Carefree . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Roger, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Well the most meaningful project I’ve worked on would have to be my very first mixtape. It’s where I discovered the heart of who I was as an artist and as a person discovering what he truly wanted out of life. I just wanted to reach people. I didn’t care about being famous or getting rich. I just wanted people to relate in hopes that I could help them with my music. Honestly the pain motivated me. Trauma from my past, relationships, the loss of loved ones, questioning my own purpose. All of these things were a driving force towards the creation of my first project. Music was and still is my salvation. I had a lot to say and I wanted to paint a vivid picture and give the listeners a glimpse into my life. And honestly I just needed the structure. Growing up I’ve always had a passion for songwriting but deep down I still doubted myself. Three mixtapes later it’s safe to say I don’t feel that way anymore. I actually feel like I’m just getting started. And that’s the beauty of it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Roger Carefree. I’m an independent Hip Hop artist/ songwriter based out of Houston,Texas. I was originally born in Dallas but grew up as an adolescent on the Southwest side of Houston. I’ve always had a passion for music and was introduced to Hip Hop at very young age by my older brother and cousins. I started off making various freestyle recordings but began to start writing music when I was about 12 years old. I considered myself somewhat of a poet. I loved to write short stories and always excelled when it came to writing essays. I guess you can say songwriting came naturally. What sets me apart is my unique approach to my music and the ability to connect with fans on a more personal level. My aim is create timeless pieces of art that will continue to provide guidance and inspire others for future generations to come. The dedication and love poured into my music is reflected in every track. It’s all special to me. I’m most proud to be a beacon of light and hope for others that are discouraged that listen to my music for comfort and solace. As far as physical works it would have to be my 3rd official mixtape titled The World Abandoned Me. It’s a beautifully composed mixtape filled with a wide range of moods and emotions but also detailing my growth and view point of the world in my purest perspective. So I’m giving you my purest music in a sense. Vulnerable yet valuable.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Well my goal is to solidify myself as a staple in the hip hop industry and build a legacy with my music.I aspire to reach great heights and one day be able to take care of my family doing what I love. Which is making great music fans can enjoy long after I’m gone. This was also the vision and aspirations of my older brother who unfortunately passed away in 2009. So me continuing the effort is my way of paying homage to him and many others that inspired me along the way. My peers inspire me. And vise versa. So I’m working on building my catalog, pushing myself to go the distance and explore new territories with my music career..
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To me the most rewarding aspect is being recognized for the hard work, passion and love you put into your craft. Not just for the creation itself but what It means to people. I love when someone tells me how much a particular song or rhyme resonated with them because of a feeling in time. Its beautiful to know my work isn’t in vain and doing what I love is helping others. I’m not saying its always bad or its always good because life is a roller coaster of emotions. But on a broader spectrum I can show fans Im not just a musician, Im a human too. I’ve been blessed with a gift and I wanna share it with the world.
