Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rodrigo Avila. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Rodrigo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was moving to Los Angeles, and it all came together in just a few days. I was 26 years old at the time, starting to make a name for myself in Mexico City. I had clients, and I was breaking into TV and movies. My career was on the rise, and I was excited about where things were heading.
Then, out of the blue, I got a call from the ex-boyfriend of a friend, someone I hadn’t heard from in years. He told me they were urgently looking for a video editor at the place he worked in Burbank, California. He called me on a Thursday, and by Sunday, I was on a plane to L.A.
I didn’t have much time to think it through. I was leaving behind a growing career and everything I knew in Mexico. But something inside me just knew I had to take the leap. That weekend, I told my family about the opportunity over dinner, and before I knew it, I was packing my bags.
The first few months in L.A. were a challenging. Everything was new, and I kept wondering if I’d made the right choice. But I threw myself into the work, and little by little, things started to fall into place. It wasn’t easy, but it was exactly what I needed to push myself further.
Looking back, I realize that moving to L.A. wasn’t just about taking a new job—it was about betting on myself. Even though I was starting to build something solid in Mexico, the decision to move was one of the best I’ve ever made. It taught me that sometimes, you have to take risks without overthinking them, because those are the moments that can change your life in the most unexpected ways.

Rodrigo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Rodrigo Ávila. I run a creative agency that’s all about connecting brands and content creators with their audiences, whether they’re in Mexico or the U.S. My journey into this field started with video editing and content creation, and over time, it’s grown into something much bigger—helping brands and creators navigate the digital world in a way that really speaks to people on both sides of the border.
What makes my agency different? It’s simple: we get both cultures. I was born in Mexico and now live in the U.S., so I’ve got a foot in each world. That means I can help businesses and content creators who are trying to make an impact in both countries. We offer a wide range of services, from social media marketing to brand development and content strategy. But what really sets us apart is how we tailor everything to fit the cultural needs of each market.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built with our clients. They trust us to guide them through the complexities of growing their brand, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see their success.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Absolutely. One story that really illustrates my resilience is when I made the decision to move to Los Angeles. I was 26 at the time, working as a freelance video editor in Mexico City. My career was just starting to take off—I had clients, and I was breaking into TV and movies. Things were looking up, but then I got a call that changed everything.
An old acquaintance reached out about an urgent job opportunity in Burbank, California. It was a great chance, but the timing was insane—he called me on a Thursday, and I needed to be in L.A. by Sunday. It was a huge risk. I was leaving behind a growing career and my entire support system, but I knew I had to take the leap.
When I arrived in L.A., it wasn’t smooth sailing. The first few months were tough. I faced financial challenges, homesickness, and the uncertainty of whether this was the right move. But I didn’t give up. I kept pushing, working hard, and slowly but surely, I started to build a new life and career in Los Angeles.
This experience taught me the value of resilience—of pushing through even when things get tough and the future is uncertain. It wasn’t easy, but sticking with it has led to incredible opportunities and growth. I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just about surviving difficult times; it’s about thriving despite them.
Any advice for managing a team?
When it comes to managing a team and keeping morale high, one of the most important things I’ve learned is the value of clear communication and genuine appreciation. First and foremost, your team needs to know what’s expected of them, but they also need to feel supported in meeting those expectations. Regular check-ins, whether formal or informal, go a long way in making sure everyone is on the same page and has what they need to succeed.
Another key element is recognizing and celebrating both big and small wins. Acknowledging your team’s hard work and achievements boosts morale and reinforces a positive culture. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant—sometimes a simple shout-out or a thank you can make a huge difference.
I also believe in empowering my team by giving them ownership over their work. When people feel like they have a say in how things get done and that their ideas matter, they’re more engaged and motivated. It’s about fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and part of something bigger.
Finally, it’s crucial to lead by example. If you’re passionate, committed, and maintain a positive attitude, your team will likely mirror that. Staying transparent, approachable, and open to feedback helps build trust and creates a supportive atmosphere where everyone can thrive.
