Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rodolfo Roman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rodolfo , thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I freelanced for a local newspaper in Miami covering local government.. However, I was always interested in covering mixed martial arts. There was an event in Miami. I went, showed my media pass and wrote a story for free. Once promoters read it, they started to get to know me. At one event, which I was scheduled to cover, the promoter called me last minute stating his ring announcer called out sick. He offered me the job and the rest is history. That was in 2010.
Rodolfo , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Everyday I enhance my knowledge by reading. I study video on fighters. I hear and watch myself to see where I can improve. I take advice from people in the industry who have been in the game for years. It’s about evolving and being your strongest critic. Humbleness will take you a long way.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A few years ago, I thought of quitting and being content in what I accomplished. I got a call from an old friend who offered me a gig. It was a small show. But it humbled me because I was at my best performing in front of a crowd of 100 people. There was no need to be in front of thousands of people. I was just happy I was able to perform and present fighters. Then, I just got a ton of work and thankfully it has not stopped.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I am a talent on television, but learning from the staff behind the scenes is significant because you know how the system works. The more knowledge the more you are equipped.
