Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rodney Perry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rodney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
Do I have a lesson of failure it’s happening as we speak I believe I’m in a season of failing, but specifically failing on my own expectations of myself. 2024 is the year of the great humbling that I didn’t truly foresee at the start of the year, I was managing two great reoccurring clients and consistently seeking out new opportunities I had planned to revamp my services and marketing strategy to fit the local needs of Atlanta’s creative/small business ecosystem, but through unforeseen circumstances I found myself back to square one. I felt demoralized and lost as to how all of this happened, that was months ago and I believe I have started to discover the silver lining as the year comes to a close
Rodney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Rodney Perry born and raised in Jackson, TN the birthplace of Gil Scott Heron. I was blessed with the gift of gab at an early age and always had an affinity for the persuasive power of marketing, I started my own business in 2021 because I was only approaching much of my creative aspirations with half effort. I needed to establish my legitimacy as well as serve the community in the best way possible. The pandemic inspired me to assist small businesses with increasing their digital footprint which through some thought and planning I founded Life as King where I provide digital marketing and creative production services to independent creatives and small businesses. I would like for anyone that is genuinely passionate about their business to connect with me so that I can actualize your creative marketing ideas in an effective and efficient way.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My specific mission is truly to assist small black owned businesses to become even more empowered and self-sufficient in their digital marketing, it’s something that every business needs and poor strategy can really be seen in the revenue. I am a creative that speaks the language of business and that is truly my greatest offering finding the pathways for my clients to make their passion lucrative and not just a forever challenging journey
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Your control and mastery of ideas! I believe to be a creative is truly to be a library of ideas. Creative people are not rare they are specific typically seeing the world in ways that no one could, but oddly enough their observations can be so relatable. I find it very rewarding to get a seed of an idea from a client or collaborator and grow that into a plant that they didn’t even imagine or imagined differently.
