Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roderick Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roderick, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My journey of learning what I do began when I started to collaborate with other like-minded individuals who shared a passion for music and offered their expertise on a broader scale as both artist and producer. Knowing what I know now I feel the process could have been sped up by doing more networking and seeking guidance from others with experience in the music business. The skills I think were most essential were learning the artist and determining what fits their style, keeping and open-mind and not being afraid to step outside my comfort zone. The obstacles that stood in the way for me was pursuing my passion for music while juggling the everyday struggles of life working a full time job, family time and pushing pass the nah-sayers.

Roderick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Coming from the Mississippi Delta, I was exposed to both blues and gospel music in my household. I developed a passion for music that I could not shake; I started out writing music with the hopes of becoming an artist myself but realized that my truest passion and calling was to produce music. As the CEO of Ear IV Sound, my job is to do everything that’s in the best interest of my artists to ensure their creativity reaches its full potential. I’m proud of my pursuit to fulfill my dream and not giving up despite the obstacles thrown in my way. I’m also proud of my accomplishments thus far and will continue to progress and actively pursue building Ear IV SoundProductions. Potential artists should know that it’s my team and I’s goal to work relentlessly to help them reach their full potential. Before starting Ear IV Sound Productions, it was my vision to build a label that would be seen as family-oriented, operated with values, and aimed to extend its growth for many years to come. I can proudly say that Ear IV Sound Productions is just that.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a producer is marrying the artist and the music together, creating a union that’s bound to be a masterpiece, and being a sound for those who appreciate artistry. It’s nothing like hearing the tracks once everything has been completed, the vocals are laid, and the mixing and mastering are done. It’s incredible, especially when you feel confident you have a hit on your hands, you can’t wait for the world to hear. It’s just an indescribable feeling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to finish what I started years ago and build on it. I want to leave my mark on the music world; to be able to look back at what was created and say “job well done”.
