We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Roderick Harris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Roderick, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea came from a group of us. We’re in Colorado Springs. We wanted something different. It’s easy to find a picture and put it on a shirt. It’s very hard to actually be creative. To the south of Denver lies Colorado Springs, sitting at an altitude of 6,035 feet. Manitou Springs, just 5 miles to the west of Colorado Springs, is approximately 6,500 feet. So we’re 6000ftbelow, it’s an underground thing. Back to the streets, the hip hop of fashion, tagging, break dancing. So we came up with an Ice Cream mountain logo. Made it graffiti style art.

Roderick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
6000 Feet Below was created for the DJ’s, the BreakDancer the person that turns graffiti into art. Also the snowboarders. We’re in Colorado, the mountains are in our backyard. When you get find clothes you like you create them. You won’t find anything like our company. We are an original company, we didn’t follow any other companies. We created our own lane. That’s how we stand out. I’ve been at events and had an older lady come up to me and asked me to explain 6000ftbelow. She said she loves the concept, she loves the colors. She brought a hat from us.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
During events, actually talking to people face to face. Telling people about our vision and why the company is called 6000 Feet Below. I’ve met people who never heard of us, but they love the colors, the logo. Going out to different cities, people love the brand. Denver is a great city to do events at.
