We were lucky to catch up with Roderick Chambers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Roderick, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m SUPER happy and grateful to be a musician! Singing is something that always came natural to me. Like breathing or walking. I’ve definitely had a regular job before and I do NOT miss it one bit LOL!! Actually there is one job I sometimes miss.. I used to work for a company named Tire Kingdom. Its only on the east coast I believe. Its kind of like Pep Boys out here. I used to change tries and oil. Something about working with my hands I really enjoyed.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started singing with my older brother when we were very young. We sang for all our family get togethers. My older brother was always encouraging me to sing and perform with him for everything. He and I started a group in high school where we sang for talent shows, assembly’s and any event that would have us. My brother, myself and a great friend of ours from high school joined a band signing covers for weddings, private events and lounges. Thats when we finally turned our passion into a business. Much later I ended up leaving our group and moving to California form South Florida. I started out singing at open mic nights and the like. I have been singing and performing for over 19 years. I have extensive live performance experience in nightclubs, casinos, weddings, special events, and resort venues. I was featured in the NAMM show in 2021 and I was also featured on season 18 of the emmy award winning television show The Voice. I currently have residencies at the Hyatt Regency in Carlsbad, Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point, Westin Anaheim Resort, Terranea Resort and The Winery in Newport Beach. The one thing I’m most proud of is that I never let music get away from me. It was very hard and extremely scarry but I stayed with it and proud to say I am a full time musician that plays over 300 performances a year.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is not necessarily being an artist lol! I’ll explain. I believe anyone who strives for something that they want deep in their heart would feel just as rewarding as being an artist. The lawyer, the video game designer, the athlete, the architect, or the make up artist. I imagine anyone who follows their passion would feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride. I think following your dream is the most rewarding thing anyone can do for themselves.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
First and foremost the Alchemist. Then The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and the secret
