We were lucky to catch up with Rod Hardy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rod, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I spent years in corporate America and always felt out of place. Often times the feeling was that I’m wasting my talent and purpose for the gratification of making money. I decided to make it my mission to always do what makes me feel complete. I want to show the world where you are today is not where you have to stay, no matter what age or circumstance.
Rod, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a collegiate athlete I kept my focus on school as a first generation college student looking to set the standard for my family. After graduating I went on to grad school with no real direction just an opportunity for a free education. Music was a hobby that I let the world tell me was impossible. Working 6 figure jobs and starting my own profitable business but something missing. In 2020 my brother ended up in a coma for almost 30 days and when he woke up the first thing he said was “I almost died at 32 and missed out on everything I alway said I wanted to do”. I sat with that for about a week before deciding I’d wouldn’t waste another day not doing what I want with this life. 2 months later I release my first single “Number 1” and the rest is history.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m currently living the story of resilience. As an artist breaking into the music industry you are constantly tested and faced with adversities. You create art that you love but that doesn’t mean the world will, and often times it’s the opposite. You have to keep going, keep creating because there is no telling what’s going to be the one the world loves.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The most pivotal time in my career came when I realized I knew more about myself than anyone else. I had marketing teams and promo teams that I thought I could trust to come in and make things happen digitally but the truth was I knew what I needed and I just need to tell them what to execute on. I decided from then on I was going to win or lose on decisions I choose to make.
