We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rocio Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rocio below.
Rocio, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first art work piece I ever sold was a 2’x3’ Poster Foam Board of Goku from Dragon Ball Z.
That piece derived from me, just casually, sharing art work I had done for myself, that consisted of a collage of things I loved, on my instagram.
A friend of mine, was fascinated with my art work that he felt called to ask me to create something for him. He liked that my work were big art pieces, which wasn’t common to him and thought that was really cool. So he deliberately gave Goku as the theme to the art piece. I was immensely thrilled that someone was genuinely interested in wanting to receive a personal art piece from me. I was so amazed, it felt sort of unbelievable all throughout the process of me getting the job done. When the art board was ready and I shared the content for it, it just created a domino effect of having more people interested in that specific piece or requesting to create something different. I had 5 different orders in line after that, since then.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an 27-year-old Latina, who grew up in the southern part of LA. I come from a family who based themselves in creative activities such as music, singing, performing, or illustrative art. Naturally, I gave in to all the mentioned activities, joined Choir and Dance during my middle school years and certified in digital multimedia during high school. While I worked on digital art, in school, I, simultaneously, perfected handmade illustrative art as a hobby and for fun.
Later on it just became a thing where people began asking me for help with, to then being something I made profit from. The digital art I do is for printing formats such as cards, posters, banners etc. and for the illustrative part I make Pyrography art consisting of acrylic paint, and resin. I currently focus more on the handmade art, because that material receives more acknowledgement.
I do intend in expanding my business with more merchandise that represents the idea and reminder I want to express to others, which is “Love”. So far I’ve just been working on requested work and video content, but I should have a release date soon for upcoming merchandise.
I made Venus, the name of my business, as the representation of what I have to offer. I create my content and art work from a place of love and I want to remind others to do the same. Setting love as the tone for everything is the best way of experiencing a high vibrational life. I want to encourage others to act on their highest excitement. Creating and sharing my art serves as a channel to emphasize love. Through my work, I want to ignite passion, magic, or some type of inspiration to believe in. You magnetize more love, when you do things with love and truth.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is being able to release your inner child and giving yourself permission to think outside of the box. Not only for yourself, but for those receiving what was created. There’s excitement that follows, enlightenment, inspiration, and innovation. Engaging in creative work serves as a catalyst to growth and with time you get to witness the purpose and impact it served. Creative and artistic expression is an opportunity to demonstrate who you truly are as an individual.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Indulging in a lot of spiritual books and content has shaped a lot of my work and my identity. Watching clips/ podcast videos from Erin Lyons and Darryl Anka have influenced me the most into the many and different perspectives and possibilities, self expression and exploration. They have opened my mind into what could be and not what it has to be, and just showing up as my authentic true self. Their work has inspired me to add value in the best way possible, to life, and align myself with that which makes me the happiest.
