We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rocio Garcia-Colmenero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rocio below.
Rocio, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
My first client came when I decided to be bold. I can remember the moment I decided I wouldn’t allow fear to dictate my future. In the pre-Covid winter of 2020, I posted a video of myself on my personal social media explaining what a Virtual Assistant was and why people should invest in one. I remember shaking and being incredibly critical of myself. Yet deep down I knew this was the beginning of something beautiful. It was a few hours later that I received a message from a long lost high school friend that stated he had watched the video and his entrepreneur fiance was looking at hiring someone for her team.
In that instant I felt so many emotions. I felt victorious over my fear, knowing that no matter how ridiculous I thought I felt, people NEEDED what I had to offer. It wasn’t until I actually closed the deal that solidified the belief that having the right set of skills can make a difference. I couldn’t believe I was monetizing my creative ability.
I’ve helped over 30+ businesses make an impact by bringing creativity and efficiency back into their business. It all started by being brave and not being afraid.

Rocio, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rocio, and I am a passionate and dedicated Latina graphic designer and podcast host.
With years of experience in design, I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from branding and logo design to streamline and social media. My skills include graphic design, illustration, logo design, and content creation. I strive to create visually striking and effective designs that communicate a clear message and resonate with audiences.
Creating isn’t the only thing I’m proud to say I do. In 2022, I founded & launched Somos Visionaries with my Co-host, Belen Saavedra. A podcast aimed to empower Latinas to pursue purpose and live a life free of fear [sin miedo]. Where a community of brave Latinas could help each other thrive and grow.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being creative transforms basic to incredible. For me, creativity is an integral part of my journey because I’m able to express myself in a way that brings joy to others. It’s rewarding knowing that by using my skills I can make a difference in the world around me.
Everybody has a creative potential and from the moment you can express this potential, you can start changing the world.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Feeling bad for increasing my prices. In business, how you price yourself matters. It dictates the type of clientele you’ll have, the service you provide and ultimately it’s a direct reflection of how you do business. I learned this far too late in my business. I always felt excruciatingly bad charging more money, I kind of took it to a personal level and it was affecting how I was doing business. I had to recondition my thinking and recognize my value. Even though I still get No’s, I still get many yes’s. When you find yourself questioning the amount of work you do and the value you give others, making sure you price yourself according to the market analysis is important. Don’t undervalue your work.
