Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rochelle McRyans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rochelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve made as in terms of both time and money is developing my television dramedy. During the summer of 2021 I began writing my first draft of 50 pages, then I got an entertainment attorney who is supporting me and taking me to the next level of my career. Her name is Lee Morin the founder of Morin Legal she started her own small business and entertainment law firm back in 2013 .
From September of 2022 until now I’ve been writing different drafts of my script and so far I wrote six drafts in five months. This was the best investment I ever made thus far with my attorney, the producers who helped me throughout the way and being my team.
Being a filmmaker is both a time and money investment but if you don’t work hard for it you’ll never ever get what you want and it’s go stay a dream.
Rochelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For the readers who read my articles in the past I had a passion for the arts at a very young age and always wanted to be on television. But of course the show business is tough I took a few acting classes and workshops and then took a professional headshot or two. The next step was submitting myself to projects and actors access online even though I didn’t book a thing I was still committed. This industry is marathon not a race but when I took my husband’s advice on making your own movie that’s when I become a filmmaker and took charge in my own career.
Then of a sudden the acting resume I only had with those acting classes had short films and web series on it and I signed unto Beyond Beauty Talent in Miami and East Coast Talent in Rome Georgia.
I founded my production company It’s a Really Rochelle Production LLC in August 2021 and my management group Like Magic Literary and Talent Management Group LLC last year in June.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The particular goal that I’m striving to reach is to become the next line of women filmmakers of color telling stories and making a difference in the world.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn is someone else in the industry will make my career happen. The backstory behind that is I was asking instead of building on Instagram I tag a casting director and their company’s Instagram page in my work and now that I’m more mature in that area it’s not desperate. This is a message to tall aspiring artist and now I create my own content and cast other professional actors in it. Never beg or be desperate and the entertainment business is based on relations that’s what you have to do and everything will work out accordingly to plan.
