We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rocco Cozza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rocco below.
Alright, Rocco thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Most law firms follow a traditional billable hour model as their main fee structure and compensation measurement tool. The more hours an attorney bills, the higher their compensation can rise. In my opinion, this leads to billing hours for the sake of billing hours which is a disservice to clients. When I started the firm, I wanted to redefine the way things are done in the industry, hence our tagline “Redefining Legal Services.” We take a very different approach to client engagement and attorney compensation. We encourage an entrepreneurial mindset within the firm and our compensation system is based on sales, marketing, and production, not just production alone. Our goal is to provide the most efficient solutions to our clients, not to extract a certain value from each one. In fact, we engage in various alternative fee arrangements and invest substantial non-billable time in understanding each client intimately. These things set us apart in our industry.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sure, I am the founder of the Cozza Law Group PLLC. I have been practicing law for 2 decades and during that time, I have worked with and advised hundreds of businesses and business owners across the country on a wide array of matters. I try to take a practical, business-first approach to how I advise clients. I have been fortunate enough to help my clients with a wide range of matters, including setting up the appropriate entity structure, contract drafting, commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, employment matters, HR policy creation, and intellectual property matters. I have also provided general business consulting and litigation services to my clients. Prior to starging my firm, I spent 13 years as General Counsel of an international Information Technology firm.
Another part of my practice is representing entertainers, athletes, artists, and musicians in all aspects of their careers, from protecting their intellectual property to setting up for-profit and nonprofit entities. I really enjoy this aspect of my practice, especially when I get to work with these individuals to find revenue-generating opportunities that our in-line with their personal brand.
Outside of the practice of law, I am also strategic advisor, best-selling author, and speaker. I self-published my book “The A.L.P.H.A. Way: 5 Keys to Unlocking Your Greatness and Living Your Best Life” and it became a best-seller. I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to share my life philosphy on a TEDx stage through my talk titled “Radical Kindness: Why the Unbillable Hour Matters Most in Business.” I have spoken on multiple stages, both nationally and internationally
In addition to my professional career, I recently founded The CLG Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching underprivileged youth in the Greater Pittsburgh area about entrepreneurship and providing an annual business pitch competition for high school students, with the winner receiving generous funding and advisory services from the foundation to get their business idea off the ground.
Lastly and most important, I am married to my beautiful and amazing wife Laura and we have 3 exceptional children, Gabe (21), Ellie (13), and Malina (10).

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Kindness. I have always treated everyone with kindness and respect no matter their station in life. I have always been willing to give my time to others with no expectation of anything in return. This philosophy led to my TedX talk and has carved out my reputation in the industry. Most people look at me as the “anti-lawyer” – Clients say that I am a breath of fresh air because I actually care and they can feel it.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our best source of new clients is our current client base. When you provide insanely good customer service, take accountability, overcommunicate, and truly care, your clients become your best marketers.
