Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robyn Sirmans . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Robyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents did so many things right when it came to raising me, that it’s hard to narrow it down to just one. But I think the biggest lesson they taught me was that the world doesn’t owe me anything. I was raised to always be the very best version of myself by working hard every day to earn everything I had.
When my brother and I were younger, we received a weekly allowance. But this wasn’t something that was just “given” to us. We had to earn it, whether it was through household chores or schoolwork. I remember saving my allowance for weeks to buy the latest Barbie accessories. I also remember the pride I felt in using my own money to purchase my toys. This was so impactful to me as I was able to learn the value of hard work and how to reap the rewards of your labor at such a young age.

Robyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My parents started Sirmans’ Realty in 1985–nearly 40 years ago. So I’ve been immersed in the real estate industry my entire life. However, in 2019, I decided to make it official by joining the family business.
As a real estate agent, I take pride in putting my clients first. I always strive to understand both their needs and desires through clear and constant communication. The buying and selling process can be overwhelming at times. So it’s my job to take on that burden for them.
Sirmans’ Realty specializes in both residential and commercial real estate. I work with buyers, sellers, and investors. But I must admit, perhaps, the most rewarding side of my job is helping clients purchase their very first home. There’s so much joy in guiding them through that process. And it motivates me to work with as many first-time homebuyers as possible to help them reach their dreams of ownership.
I count it a privilege to be able to work in this industry. Whether I’m on the selling or buying side, every day feels like I’m taking steps to make a difference in someone’s life.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My biggest pivot to date happened in June of 2019. That’s when I decided to leave a 13-year career in broadcast news to forge a different path into my family’s business. I loved everything about television production. In fact, I still do lots of freelance production work today. But I truly believe walking away from the only career I’d known up until that point was the best decision I’ve ever made. It unleashed a sense of freedom in me that I’d never experienced before. And it opened up a whole new world of possibilities. I was able to jump headfirst into my family’s business without the burden of feeling like I was neglecting any other obligations.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
“The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks is one of the most inspirational books I’ve ever read. It teaches people how to navigate and get the best out of life through not-so-traditional methods or thoughts. The book not only helped me to discover all of my hidden fears but to overcome them as well. So if you are reading this and looking to make any huge life-changing decisions, or if you just want to discover what else life has to offer, I highly recommend “The Big Leap.”
