We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robyn Savage a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Robyn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I was so ready to go all in. There I was, finally out on my own, building my dream. I had a thriving wedding planning business that was fully booked and in high demand. The clients were there, the success was flowing, and everything was growing—but something was still off. Two years in, I sold it all and started again.
This time, I launched a coaching business to help new entrepreneurs turn their big ideas into sustainable, profitable realities. I teamed up with my best friend, who also happened to be my business partner, and together we went full throttle. We built a vibrant community, launched a podcast, ran global retreats, and worked with hundreds of clients worldwide. The impact was undeniable. We hit seven figures in revenue within two years, and our brand was becoming the one to watch. But again, that nagging feeling crept in—something wasn’t right.
So, we made the tough decision to close up shop. And there I was again, starting from scratch.
But this time, I knew what needed to come next. I was ready to fully own my skill set as a Brand Strategist & Copywriter. I was ready to step into my Core Advantage and build my personal brand. But, honestly? It was terrifying. I was ready to stop hiding behind businesses and logos that weren’t me, yet the thought of being seen and putting myself out there was paralyzing. The fear crept in—I was worried I’d be seen as a fraud, not enough, and that maybe I wasn’t as qualified as I thought.
But here’s what I’ve learned: that fear? It’s normal. When we’re on the brink of something big, it’s so easy to freeze. But as entrepreneurs, creatives, and dreamers, we have to trust the unknown. And so, that’s exactly what I did.
In 2022, I dove headfirst into my personal brand. No business name to hide behind. No logo masking who I truly was. I started to show up as myself—skills, story, mission, vision, and all. I told my story. I spoke about my work. I built a community. I started selling, serving, and providing value—day after day. And bit by bit, I trusted that I was worthy of helping people who needed what I had to offer.
That leap of faith? It paid off. In my first year, my personal brand earned half a million dollars. And the ride has been nothing short of wild. Sure, there were tough moments and plenty of perceived “failures.” But, honestly? There have been even more celebrations, powerful lessons, and deep fulfillment.
From the moment I walked away from my dream job, I’ve taken risks as an entrepreneur. And I’m so glad I did. Without risk, there’s no growth. No evolution. No magic. Because when we’re willing to meet our creative edges, that’s where the opportunities we’ve been seeking come seeking us.
Now, I run a brand and business that’s a true reflection of who I am. And to me, that’s the essence of freedom. No pretending. No hiding. No performance. Just me, being me. That’s why my brand’s core message is: “The Brand is You”—because I believe the most successful version of yourself is the one you show up as. The you that’s been there all along, waiting to be seen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey there! I’m Robyn, the founder of The Brand is You, and I’m here to help you stop hiding behind business names, logos, and personas that aren’t really you. I’m a Brand Strategist and Copywriter who’s passionate about helping entrepreneurs and creatives like you show up as your truest, most unapologetic selves. The real magic happens when you build a brand that’s an authentic extension of who you are—skills, stories, and all.
What do I offer? Well, I guide my clients in building brands that actually represent them. We dive into the core of who they are—what they stand for, what lights them up, and what makes them different—and craft a strategy around that. Whether it’s brand positioning, messaging, copywriting, or content creation, I help my clients own their story and use it to create brands that feel both powerful and sustainable.
The problems I solve? I help people who feel stuck or disconnected from their work break free from the noise and find their authentic voice. I guide them in standing out in their industry without compromising who they are. If you’re overwhelmed by the pressure to fit into a mold that doesn’t serve you, I’m here to show you a better way. It’s about showing up in your truth and aligning your business with your values and vision, so you can grow without losing your soul in the process.
What sets me apart? I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. I create custom strategies that align with who you are at your core—because I know that the most successful businesses are built when the founders are being themselves. I’m not about trends or formulas—I’m about creating iconic brands that are rooted in authenticity and designed to last.
What am I most proud of? I’m incredibly proud of the personal growth I’ve experienced along the way. My brand has grown from my own fears and doubts—facing them head-on, doing the hard work, and trusting that my truth would lead me to the right people. And that’s the kind of transformation I want for my clients: to step into their own power, to trust themselves, and to create something that’s truly theirs.
The main thing I want you to know about me? I’m here to help you build a brand that isn’t just a business—it’s an expression of who you are. And when you show up fully as yourself, the right clients will find you, the right opportunities will show up, and your business will thrive in ways you never imagined.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Here’s how I’d tell that story in your brand voice:
I’ve always been the kind of person who sees opportunities in risk—maybe more than most. It’s just part of who I am, and it’s been a huge driver in my entrepreneurial journey. By the time I’d been working with 1:1 branding clients for three years—building their businesses with creative strategies, high-level copywriting, and content creation—I was feeling the itch to take things to the next level. But what did that next level look like?
I decided to take a big leap. I messaged a client I’d been working with for six months—she was based in Europe, and I was in Canada—and I suggested we do a 7-day intensive… in Switzerland.
Yeah, you heard that right. A paid work trip to Switzerland to dive deep into her business in person. At this point, I’d been running my business online and had never done something like this before. It felt huge. I was scared to send the proposal. Scared to quote her five figures. I knew there was a good chance she’d say no—there were so many variables stacked against me. But I took the leap.
I put my trust in my own abilities. And I asked her to trust in me too. I sent the quote, hit send, and held my breath.
48 hours later, my flights were booked. The quote was paid in full. And just two weeks after that, I was boarding a plane to Zurich.
What followed was 10 incredible days of deep work—building her brand outline, refining her business model, setting goals, creating a content strategy, building a marketing guide, setting up her content calendar… We covered so much ground. It was the biggest risk I’d ever taken. I was leaving my family—my two young kids, my husband, and my dog—for 10 days. I was stepping into uncharted territory as an entrepreneur.
But you know what? Sometimes the things that scare us the most are the ones that pay off. Selling yourself is uncomfortable. It’s hard. But when you trust yourself—when you step into those uncomfortable conversations, promote your work, and put yourself out there—you’d be surprised how often it works out in your favor.
That trip wasn’t just about the work I did with my client—it was a turning point for me as a business owner. It showed me that sometimes you have to trust yourself to take risks, even when the odds are stacked against you. And when you do, magic can happen.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my community on Instagram has been quite the journey—it’s been 12 years of showing up, and while my story, business, and brand have shifted over time, one thing has remained the same: my consistency. I’ve kept showing up, even when things felt hard or slow. And the truth is, it’s always been about connection.
From the very start, storytelling has been at the heart of everything I do. Sharing my experiences, my lessons, my journey—those are the things that have allowed me to really connect with people. It’s not about the perfect post, it’s about showing up and sharing what’s real.
I also knew that educating my audience would be key. I wanted to position myself as someone who could genuinely help, someone with knowledge and insights to share. So, I made sure to offer value—tools, tips, and content that could make a real difference. Education is the bridge between me and my followers, and it’s been a powerful way to connect on a deeper level.
But I didn’t want to just be all business, right? I made sure to show my personality, too. I kept things light, fun, and real—because people don’t just follow brands, they follow humans. And that’s what I wanted to be: someone people could relate to. I’ve always believed that showing who I really am is what makes me stand out.
Engagement is another huge piece. I’ve always been about building relationships—responding to comments, chatting with people in DMs, and making sure I’m engaging with my community. I never saw my followers as numbers. They’re real people, with their own stories and lives. And the more I engage, the more we connect.
And yes, I do share promotional content—but here’s the thing: I never force it. I share my offers when it feels right, when it’s aligned with the value I’ve already given. It’s always been about creating a foundation of trust and connection, and when you’ve done that, selling just feels like an invitation to keep working together.
I’ll be honest—there were definitely days when I got zero likes or engagement. It felt discouraging, but I didn’t quit. I kept showing up, even on the tough days, even when it felt like no one was paying attention. And slowly but surely, my community began to respond to me—the real, imperfect me. Not just my business, not just my content, but me as a person. They connected with my humanness.
I don’t have a huge following—under 10,000 followers, to be exact. But here’s the thing: that’s not what matters. What matters is the relationships I’ve built. I’ve focused on quality, not quantity. I’ve put more energy into building real connections than I have into trying to beat the algorithm. And that’s where the magic happens. I get to have a huge impact—even with a smaller audience—because I’ve invested in real relationships.
At the end of the day, it’s not about how many people follow you. It’s about how many people feel seen by you. It’s about creating connections that are genuine and meaningful. And as long as I keep showing up as my true, imperfect self, that community will only keep growing.
