We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robyn Lee Miller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robyn below.
Robyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My story is unique in that it isn’t one that follows a traditional business trajectory. I never set out to be a business owner. I truly thought I would spend my life in a genetics lab. I earned degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology, chemistry and biotechnology. I was fascinated by genetics, nutrition, and the science of how the body operates. For years, I believed I would build a career uncovering discoveries that could change lives. Over time, though, I began to feel disconnected from the work, I talk too much for the isolation of a laboratory setting. Science had always inspired me, but I realized what truly lit me up was the communication, the connection, and the storytelling behind it.
After leaving college, I did some odd jobs and some reflection. I’ve always been a mix of science and art. I loved theater, music, and performing just as much as I loved logic and experimentation. My mom used to say I would end up on the radio one day because I never stopped talking, and she was right. Funny how they usually are.
Fast forward to the day that I won a local radio contest. Little did I know the prize was one that would change the course of my life. I went to the station to claim my prize and as I left asked if they did any internships or had any employment opportunities. As luck would have it, this small ask led to a full-time at the station as an on-air talent, and live event host. I was tasked with running the station’s Facebook page when the social media boom occured, and that opportunity opened a new creative door for me. We created a vlog called “Robyn’s Reviews, The place to be with Robyn Lee” where we encompassed radio, digital, video and blogging into one umbrella. Looking back, that was the true beginning of my career in communications.
From radio, I went on to work for other marketing agencies and eventually joined a corporate marketing team in New Jersey. It was a stable job with all the benefits, but when I became a mother, everything changed. I wanted to build a life that allowed me to be present for my daughter, while still doing work that mattered. That is where MorningBird Media hatched from. It wasn’t the result of a business plan or calculated decisions. It was something that naturally took flight from the skills and passions I had developed over the years.
At first, I took on a few small businesses to share their stories online, but it quickly became clear that this was something bigger. My career was never built on one defining idea. It was built on years of curiosity, experience, and action, two of the first clients I had are still with us today. Every step from science, to teaching, to radio prepared me to build a company rooted in creativity, connection, and purpose. MorningBird Media was not something I dreamt of in a meeting. It was something I grew into, one story, one client, and one leap of faith at a time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Robyn Lee Miller, and I am the founder of MorningBird Media, a woman-owned digital marketing agency based in Massachusetts. We help businesses, nonprofits, and personal brands find their voice, tell their story, and grow with confidence through thoughtful, strategic marketing.
My path to this industry was anything but traditional. I started my career in radio, where I fell in love with storytelling and the connection it creates. Over time, I worked across different areas of media and marketing, from live broadcasting to agency work to corporate communications. Along the way, I noticed a common theme: many passionate business owners were struggling to show up in a way that truly represented who they are, especially in the digital arena. That realization became the foundation for MorningBird Media.
At MorningBird, we bridge creativity with strategy. Our services include everything you would expect from a marketing agency: social media management, digital advertising, website design, branding, and long-term marketing/advertising planning. More than anything, we serve as a partner to our clients, helping them find clarity and confidence in their message. Many business owners are consumed with running their companies (rightfully so!) that marketing becomes an afterthought. We help them create a plan that is organized, intentional, and achievable, so they can focus on what they do best while we amplify their story. We are your accountability buddy!
What makes MorningBird Media different is our personal approach. We lead with empathy, curiosity, and genuine care. Every project matters to us, and we take pride in the growth we help our clients achieve. We are also passionate about building community, which is why we created programs like The Western MA Business Women’s Network, a supportive online & in-person group for women business owners and the Women-owned Business Directory on our website to give these businesses an extra SEO opportunity. We participate in many creative non-profit causes and volunteer time in academia and higher education. One event we are particularly proud of this year was bringing together business owners, entrepreneurs and creatives for the AdClub of Western MA Creative Unconference to share ideas and inspiration.
I am most proud of the relationships we have built and the impact we continue to make in our community. MorningBird Media is not just a marketing agency, it is a place where stories are amplified, creativity is celebrated, and businesses are given the tools to thrive. When clients work with us, they are not just hiring a service. They are partnering with a team that believes in their mission and is committed to helping them share it with the world when they become our client and long after.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that truly illustrates my resilience comes from an experience that had nothing to do with sales or strategy, but everything to do with heart. After the Columbine incident, the nation was in a fragile state. My husband and I developed a program that has evolved into The North Central Act of Kindness Award, based in Connecticut. The idea was simple, but powerful. Middle and high school students are nominated by their teachers for demonstrating exceptional kindness and character outside of academic and scholastic achievement. Each recipient is recognized for their compassion and given the opportunity to choose a charity to which a donation would be made on their behalf. The goal was to create a ripple effect by turning one act of kindness into many. The award started with one middle school and grew to cover four local towns and eight schools in total.
That program became one of the most meaningful projects I have ever worked on. Over time, we transitioned the program to the North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, which helped expand its reach and continue its mission. It continues to honor students every month. While it is local students that are honored, donations are sent to charities around the world. My long-term vision is to bring this award to new markets and create a nonprofit organization that celebrates and empowers kindness on a larger scale.
This story and time in my life represents resilience because it is a reminder that meaningful work can evolve and grow even when it takes a different form than you first imagined. I learned that true leadership is not about control. It is about planting something that continues to bloom, even when it changes hands. There were times that I was so touched by the students and what they were supporting that I would leave the school in tears. No matter how much MorningBird Media grows, philanthropy will always remain at its center. Giving back, uplifting others, and using business as a force for good are values that guide everything I do. For me, resilience means holding on to those values no matter where the path leads.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with clients by meeting them where they are and making sure every interaction feels personal and genuine. I know that every client has a different communication style, so one of the first things I do is learn how they prefer to connect. Some feel most comfortable through email, while others love quick texts, phone calls, or in-person check-ins. My goal is to make communication easy and natural for them, not the other way around. I believe that building loyalty starts with truly listening, so I take the time to understand not just their business goals but also who they are as people. I pay attention to the small details and make it a point to celebrate their milestones, whether that means sending a handwritten birthday card, recognizing a personal achievement, or checking in during a busy season just to offer support. Those small, thoughtful gestures matter. They show that I value their trust and the relationship we have beyond the work itself. To me, brand loyalty is not something you earn through transactions; it is something you build through genuine connection, consistent care, and a commitment to helping people feel seen and supported every step of the way.
