We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robyn Goldberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robyn below.
Hi Robyn, thanks for joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
Systems and to asking for help! When I started my business, as most of us do, I was alone. I was taking each step slowly, with one foot in front of the other. Looking back, although having fun, making it an “experience”, and truly doing things the only way I knew how, it was a mess! Sloppy!
Now that I am several years into having my business, I realize that there are systems to be put in place to make things move smoothly, having a strategy! Although always a work in progress, I have somewhat of a plan and strategy to help me move forward, towards meeting my intended goals.
Money is always getting in the way of asking for help, or hiring someone to help, i understand. But, if there is some way to get someone on board to help you with the things you just dont know how to do, it can slingshot you ions farther that you can get there yourself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The Kit Vintage is a luxury vintage clothing & accessories boutique in Los Angeles. We specialize in Vintage, alternative Bridal, Special Occasion Pieces, and designer ready to wear.
I started in the Fashion Industry 24 years ago when after going to Fashion School and starting my career as a Fashion Editor at various magazines based out of NYC. Once I decided to leave the editorial world, I moved to Los Angeles where I continued working in fashion as a Fashion Stylist. I was Styling for large companies for their ad campaigns.
I have always been a vintage collector and shopper. Nearing the end of my styling career, I realized that I truly only wanted to work with vintage fashion, and work for myself.
Starting a small rack in my husbands Antique Jewelry Store, it was only natural to offer his clients (and hopefully soon to by mine) vintage bridal options which went along with their antique engagement rings or vintage dresses & gowns to attend special events!
I personally have always only dressed in vintage for all events that I attend. Vintage is one of a kind, unique, and special to walk in a room wearing the one and only. I love being able to offer that same feeling to my clients. WE offer them pieces that they can not find anywhere else. Where they feel their best, their most beautiful, and most confident.
Being a part of a bride’s most special day, or offering confidence and beauty to those who want to dress their best for the day, is the most rewarding for me. I know when someone walks out of the fitting room, in love with how they are feeling in their garment. The feeling never gets old, I never get bored of seeing a smile on everyone’s face walking out of our curated boutique.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the covid years, we had to pivot! There were little to no one walking through our store and this was scary. although we had used social media platforms to show items that we had to offer, we had never thought to use it as an actual sales platform. This was a huge learning experience for me as a business owner to truly understand the meaning of how to pivot, and that there are always other options to tap into. Its about finding what those are.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I have recently started tapping into my online resources. Yes, you would have thought i would have done that years ago…and I did…only slightly! I have hired an online ecommerce manager to truly take over that part of the my business. There are so many strategies for online that I did not know about, or I do not have the where with all to try and figure them out. I am investing in someone else to build this part of the business for me and it has been a gift to have.
New clients are finding me on Google every single day! New bodies are walking through the door because of these new strategies. It has been important to know that I can not do it all myself. Being able to put trust into someone else to help you build is KEY.
