We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Robyn Evette Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Robyn, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew when I was a child I wanted to pursue the arts. Not truly knowing exactly what I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to be on television. Performing as a child was my escape, I was shy and really felt no one understood my dreams.
I was completely infatuated with television as a young girl but coming from a small town I thought oh thats fantasy, not reality.
For years I fell into the trap of believing that becoming an actress or being on tv will never come true. So I let it go, I followed the path and journey that I felt was the easiest college and 9 to 5. I put all my dreams behind me.
But luckily years late my move to Atlanta reignited the fire and desire inside of me to pursue my passion of the arts again.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I initially started modeling in 2006 when I moved to Atlanta. I eventually started acting classes in 2010 and pursuing my acting career in 2012. It has its challenges and you definitely need tough skin in this industry. I really enjoy being on set and developing relationships with other cast members, directors, and crew. I am most proud of my commercial bookings and television appearances this year to include Bojangles and 2 episodes of ATL Homicide to name a few. I really, really enjoy being on commercial sets its always a good time!
I also enjoy life coaching. I began throughout my career to notice the reason behind others not pursuing their dreams. If we internalize the negative comments, opinions and judgments of others we will never pursue our dreams. So my purpose and objective behind life coaching is tohelp women like myself redefine their life on their terms and realize their dreams are ageless. What I focus on in all of my sessions are actionable steps and SMART goals, changing and helping my clients reach their ultimate mindset.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was once told by someone in the industry before I began acting that I would never make it because I was too tall. And of course at the time I allowed that to deter me and I completely put my career on pause for a couple of years. That is why I believe so strongly that you must focus on your why, your where and your how. Why you want to pursue the career you want, why you want to pursue it and how you are going to get there.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
For acting my goal is to get a recurring role on a television series, my dream role is to become a lead detective in a series, Ive always wanted and desired to play a powerful, strong and authoritative role.
For life coaching my goal is to help women destroy the idea of believing that your age determines when you begin to pursue your dreams, changing the mindset that you can pursue your dreams at any age.
