Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robyn Buyskes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robyn, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
Boudoir photography has long been known to cater to the “female” body. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community I wanted to change that standard. My studio welcomes all genders and identities and I strive to make the studio a safe space for all. I truly believe that everyone deserves to feel amazing about themselves, regardless of gender.

Robyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started out as a wedding photographer back in 2009 when I read a magazine article talking about boudoir photography. After reading this article I felt a fire in me to bring boudoir to the Buffalo area in a way that no one had seen. In 2010 I went to California to train with some of the leading experts in the industry and launched my business, Bubbles & Berries Boudoir. I originally came up with the name because we used to serve a toast of champagne and fresh berries.
When I first started photographing clients I kept my style a bit reserved, but the more confident and comfortable I became with myself and my sexuality the more I noticed my work taking on a new bold style. I began to expand my portfolio to include couples of all types and all gender identities.
Expanding my clientele to be more inclusive is when I truly hit my stride in the industry. It brings me so much joy and motivation to work with so many different types of people.
Advertising Boudoir can be extremely difficult, social media platforms are almost impossible to share imagery, so it is so important my clients have an experience of a lifetime that they want to talk about with their friends. I pride myself in helping clients feel comfortable and confident during the session. After the session we are happy to say that we pride ourselves on keeping all edits to our images natural looking.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission as queer boudoir photographer is to be as inclusive as possible. Again the boudoir industry tends to lean very heavy into the traditional “female” body, I am here to change the game! I truly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to see how amazing they are!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I had to unlearn is to stop comparing my work to others and what they were doing. Being a creative is to find inspiration, but to make it your own. I have found myself over the years being extremely hard on myself that my work wasn’t good enough. I have since come to realize what is important is how doing this job makes me feel and what it provides to my clients.
