Robtaevious, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with inspirations and heroes. Are there any historical figures you look up to?

I don’t know if he can be considered “historical” but the person who I’ve learned the most lessons from is the late great Kobe Bryant. We’ve always heard about Kobe’s work ethic and the Mamba Mentality but recently I started watching more documentaries about Kobe because I was so intrigued by his work ethic and just his whole way of thinking that made him the LEGEND that he is. I watch documentaries on him, listen to interviews he did, listen to his motivational speeches, all to develop that mentality that he had and it has worked. Instead of getting up at 8 or 9, I get up at 6. I’m in the gym first thing in the morning and I’m working on my craft of photography and videographer A LOT more every single day now. I have to give all credit to Kobe. RIP.

Robtaevious, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I started acting back in 2013. The acting was honestly kind of something that I fell into. I’d always wanted to act but was never presented an opportunity to get into it. I did church plays and small stuff like that but that was as close as I got to “acting” if you get what I’m saying. I had my first ever photoshoot and a movie opportunity and it went from there. The movie NEVER came out but during filming for that movie, it allowed me to meet some really dope people and through some of those people, future opportunities opened up for more projects. I started shooting and editing my own skits in 2015. I shot everything on my iPhone and edited everything on my iPad using iMovie. That was cool, and I had some viral moments, but it wasn’t “enough”. The vision that I had was WAY bigger. The vision I had went well beyond just skits. I’d always wanted to write, shoot, produce, and edit my own films, but I honestly ran from it for so long out of fear that I couldn’t do it. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I actually was able to sit down, focus, and teach myself how to do everything concerning filmmaking, photography, and videography. That allowed me to start my own company. Start my own thing. I’m literally a proud graduate of YouTube University lol. Now here I am 2 years later, numerous photoshoots, numerous weddings shot and filmed, and 9 films later, my company Ry Media Company is doing AMAZING.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Hmmm…… A lesson that I had to unlearn? I mean I guess it would be thinking that everybody has to support you. Thinking that just because people know you, y’all are friends, and y’all are family that they just HAVE to support you. I had that mindset when I first started Ry Media Company. That’s not the case. You just have to work, provide great service, provide a great product, and the support and customers will come. NEVER and I mean never EXPECT people to support you just because y’all know each other. Let your work speak for itself and the support will come.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Most definitely. There’s a book called “Do as I Do, Not as I Did” by Jeremy L. Spratling. It’s a book full of helpful tips for entrepreneurs who are starting a business. This book helped me a TON. Honestly A LOT of the promoting ideas, business strategies, and so much more came from me reading this book. Highly recommend for all entrepreneurs out here.
