We were lucky to catch up with Robnitia Weekley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Robnitia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.

I feel like I start over every day. Everyday to me it’s a learning experience, I literally learn something new everyday. I intake and learn from new experiences and apply them to daily life and how I view and approach situations. We’re in a state of constant change if we accept them as opportunities for growth. The beginning stages of entrepreneurship can feel overwhelming. It’s hard to know exactly what you don’t know about starting a business. Although internet research can be immensely helpful, it cannot speak to personal experience. By connecting with a successful entrepreneur, you can benefit from their wisdom and gain knowledge that may not be commonly available online, preparing you to start your own business in a completely different way.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

This may be an unpopular decision through the mindset of hustle and grind. There are many layers to it though I believe in hustle and rest. Remembering to be kind and reward yourself after working long hours and give yourself space to breath and do nothing sometimes. The balance will always be beneficial and being able to reset and come back to it will be more effective than being completely burnt out.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I would say 3 qualities/skills you should have when starting a business is: Patience, Research and Consistent. You can dream big, but you must be patient, nothing will come over night. When looking at your future business venture, do your research! Get the best understanding about the industry you plan on being in. This is important and can’t stress this enough. Finally, consistence is needed because you must show up each and everyday for yourself and your business. There have been many times where I have had to cancel my plans and handle my business priorities because I have goals I want to achieve. If you are early in your journey, I will say that you need to show up daily. Consistency is the key to success.
