Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robin Towle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was in third grade I became interested in drawing clothings. I love that in other eras women wore long gowns all the time. On play dates with my best friend we would spend hours drawing dresses. I wasn’t the best artist , but I knew detail. As I watched old movies with my Dad I would keep an eye out for details in the clothing so I could add to my designs.
Robin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The best part of my life is my family . I have been married to my sweetheart Kevin for thirty years. Together we have six children. Four boys and two girls . We have been blessed with the three best daughter in laws you could ask for. I am now in my Grandma Era and I’m enjoying our four beautiful grandchildren!
In 2019 I was crowned Mrs International. I was able to share my passion about saving lives from the tragedy of suicide and empower women as I traveled around the country and around the world.
Pageantry was an avenue for me to make a difference and also allowed me to embrace fashion on a more intense level.
My love for fashion started at a very young age. My Mom’s influence was instrumental in moving me into a career of fashion design. My Mom grew up of humble beginnings. But because she was the only girl in the family my Grandma would go without to make sure she always was dressed nicely. But when my Mom was nominated to Homecoming Court, she knew there was no way she would have a nice evening gown and secretly hoped her best friend would win because she knew she would have a beautiful gown .
My Mom never wanted me to feel this way. So she always worked when I was growing up to make sure I never felt the way she felt.
Because of this my Mom had a love for clothing. And she shared this passion with me . She taught me everything she knew about design. The names of different cuts, and she always called fabrics by their official name or print style. She would point out the attention to details in well made clothing.
She was educating me and I didn’t even know it. Then fast forward to thirty years down the road when I started my clothing line. While working with manufacturers I realized I was often more knowledgeable and found myself teaching them!
It’s this attention to detail, the fact that clothing has been an important factor in my life and the desire to empowerment women that my brand Robin Towle is built upon. Our goal at Robin is to give every woman young and old the same self-confidence that my mom worked so hard to give me. I was blessed with a wonderful mother. She was nurturing and smart. She made sure to empower me and show me the difference and quality. She taught me how to shine from the inside out, by serving and being a light to the world.
Our mission at Robin Towle is to bring light to the world. We want to help women of all ages shine their light . To help them find the young girl inside of themselves, who they may feel they lost. To embrace pulling out of the comfort zone, and not worry about the opinions of others. To return to that little girl that knew she could accomplish anything! Robin Towle is a mother, daughter line that brings light to the world, celebrating generations, femininity, quality and the power of Women!
How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media has grown because of my engagement around the world. In 2019 when I won the title of Mrs. International I had the opportunity to travel to many countries and meet people from all over the world. I always made sure during my travels to share my social media contact with everyone I met. I also have a huge network of pageant friends now because of my endeavors and my goals with my platform of suicide prevention. I think the biggest way to can grow your social media is to be outgoing in your own life and to have a purpose. Lots of times people get caught up in progressing in social media arena and forget to live their real lives. Connection is the true way to make engagement and to gain more followers that truly care about what you’re doing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is one of the things you need most when starting a new business I feel. I really love clothing and design, but there are parts of the business that don’t come natural and feel overwhelming. When I started my business, there were so many aspects of things that I didn’t consider. There are things that are not my strengths or that I don’t enjoy doing. For example, I really stink at selling. It’s not my favorite thing to do. When starting a business and bootstrapping a company, you do a lot of the jobs yourself. Especially if you’re particular and you want things done the way you like them. This brand has my name on it and represents me . I feel I always have to have my hand in everything. In the beginning it was all me. I was basically everything in the company from the social media manager, to the marketing agent, the manufacturing liaison, to the designer. There were times when I felt very alone. At one point it became very overwhelming for me and I began to shut down. I had to take time to rest and reset. I reached out to friends and gained more help. I was so blessed to have people come to my aid , people who believe in what I’m doing and want to be part of this. That has really helped me, but there are times you can feel very alone when you’re starting a business. I am really grateful for the people who have come to my rescue. When going through times like this self-care is super important. You have to know when to rest and take care of yourself and you have to constantly be pouring nourishment of different kinds. Nourishment of the soul, of the body, and of the brain. You have to communicate and let people help you. You also have to protect your time and work hard to keep balance in your life. These are the things I did to get through this period.
