We recently connected with Robin Litrenta and have shared our conversation below.
Robin, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I spent a lot of years documenting my family’s life, so when my youngest child left for college, I decided to launch my business. I absolutely love photographing love and emotion. Whether it’s the love of a family, couple, expectant mama, the love is there and I document it.
Most of my business is booked by women, especially moms. Many new clients say they have never had a family portrait session or it’s been too long since their last one. The most important thing I tell them is to let go. Let go of the worry and trust in my process. They know how their love for their family feels, but let’s face it, a lot of times mom is taking photos of her kids or partner with kids on her phone and she isn’t in the photos.
My portrait sessions are intentional and specific to each family and designed for clients to play with and love on their families. For one hour they don’t need to tell their kids ‘no’ or behave a certain way (unless it’s a health or safety issue!). They just get to have a fun outing creating new memories while I photograph them laughing, twirling, exploring, cuddling and enjoying their time together.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Click Community is an incredible resource for on-line learning. I wish I had discovered it years ago when my kids were younger. I know my personal family photos would have been better composed if I knew then what I know now.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I decided to launch my business I recognized the need to upgrade my consumer-grade DSLR camera and lenses to professional grade. ‘Fancy’ cameras are important, but more so are the lenses. I was hesitant to invest heavily in new equipment so I carefully sourced two professional grade used lenses which I still regularly use. I then sourced a used professional full-frame DSLR. The camera body served me well for a few years before I upgraded to a new mirrorless camera body. Whenever I seek to add a new lens to my kit, I always look first for a highly maintained used lens as the cost savings can be quite large.
