Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robin Frey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first realized I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally in the spring of 2024, when an unexpected layoff from my long-term marketing job became a pivotal moment. For years, I had been working with preserved moss and botanicals as a side passion, and it was something that brought me immense joy and fulfillment. Faced with the prospect of returning to another 9-to-5, desk-bound marketing role, I knew it was time to take a leap of faith. That turning point gave me the push I needed to transform my side hustle into a full-fledged business, and I haven’t looked back since.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey with Wonder Moss began with a lifelong love for the outdoors—a passion that has always grounded and inspired me. As an avid hiker and nature photographer, I’ve spent countless hours capturing the serenity and beauty of the natural world. My photos have been showcased in art galleries and used to promote community parks and trails, reflecting my deep connection to the environment.
That connection became the foundation of Wonder Moss, a creative venture born from a pivotal moment in my life. After a layoff from my career as a marketing manager, I saw an opportunity to combine my artistic skills, design experience, and deep appreciation for nature into something meaningful. Wonder Moss was my way of channeling those passions into creating art that not only celebrates nature but also brings its transformative power into everyday spaces.
At Wonder Moss, I specialize in crafting preserved moss walls, custom moss logos, and nature-inspired décor for both residential and commercial clients. These are not just pieces of art; they’re experiences designed to foster calm, reduce stress, and enhance well-being. Guided by the principles of biophilic design, my work bridges the gap between people and the natural world, reminding us of the beauty and tranquility that nature offers.
What sets Wonder Moss apart is our commitment to collaboration and customization. I offer free, in-person design consultations where clients can explore a variety of moss types, colors, and textures to create one-of-a-kind pieces tailored to their vision. Whether it’s a large-scale moss wall for a hotel or a small décor piece for a cozy home, every creation is made with care, using sustainably harvested and preserved materials, often sourced locally.
I’m especially proud to introduce the Western New York area to the artistry and benefits of preserved moss walls. From enhancing the ambiance of a restaurant to providing sound-dampening elegance in a hotel lobby, these works are as functional as they are beautiful.
The coming months are an exciting chapter for Wonder Moss. In January, I’ll be installing two stunning moss walls at a prominent downtown Buffalo hotel, showcasing how biophilic design can transform hospitality spaces into calming, inviting environments. In spring 2025, I’ll be honored to feature my work in the Junior League of Buffalo’s Designer Show House, with multiple moss walls and décor pieces creating a breathtaking blend of art and nature.
Through my work, I aim to transport viewers into serene, nature-inspired worlds where they can experience the grounding and rejuvenating power of the forest. This mission has already touched lives and I am humbled and thankful to be a part of it.
At Wonder Moss, it’s about more than art—it’s about creating spaces where nature and humanity coexist harmoniously. I’m thrilled to share this journey with the world and invite others to join me in reimagining the spaces we inhabit, one moss wall at a time.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing the profound impact my work can have on someone’s life. Sharing the transformative power of nature through my creations is deeply fulfilling. I’ll never forget my first show, when a woman stood before one of my large moss walls, her eyes welling up with tears, and said, “I feel the calmness of the forest.” Moments like these remind me why I do what I do—they inspire me to keep innovating and finding new ways to connect people to the grounding and restorative essence of nature.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media is all about fostering connections and sharing authenticity. In the beginning, I focused on following other businesses and artists in my community, creating a network of like-minded individuals—my “tribe.” By engaging with their content, commenting on posts, sharing their news, and supporting their work, I not only built relationships but also organically grew my own audience.
For anyone just starting out, my advice is to share your story—what makes your art and business unique. People want to connect with the person behind the work, so don’t shy away from being a little vulnerable. Some of my most engaging posts have been unpolished moments—hands dirty, hair a mess, completely immersed in my craft. These glimpses into your process resonate with your audience and make your story relatable. And don’t hesitate to ask your tribe to share your posts—every share expands your reach and brings new followers into your world.
