Robin Amber, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.

My parents are truly incredible. They’ve always been unwavering in their support of my life choices, even when those choices meant stepping into unfamiliar territory. In fact, they were some of the biggest voices encouraging me to take the leap into photography when I was nervous to leave the security of my former career. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

They also placed a strong emphasis on the value of higher education. While I’m not currently working in the field of my Master’s Degree, the knowledge, discipline, and critical thinking skills I gained through that experience have been invaluable in running my own business. People often think photography is just about taking pretty pictures—but behind the scenes, it’s a full-blown business that requires strategic thinking, marketing, client management, and so much more.

One of the most important lessons I took from my graduate education was this: The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. That mindset has shaped how I approach everything. It keeps me humble, hungry to learn, and always seeking growth. That drive led me to seek out a mentor—Jennifer Chavez, a leading expert in our local area—who has been nothing short of amazing in helping me grow Precious Gems Photography into what it is today.

I’m incredibly grateful to my parents for instilling that blend of support, curiosity, and lifelong learning. It’s shaped every step of my journey.

Robin Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Hi, I’m Robin Vadehra, the heart behind Precious Gems Photography. I’m a Fort Worth-based photographer, but more importantly, I’m a storyteller through the lens. My journey into photography has been a long time coming. I’ve had a passion for capturing moments since high school, but like many creatives, I tucked that passion away while building a corporate career. I spent years working as an Area Manager for a crime scene cleaning company—an intense job that had me on call around the clock.

Everything shifted after I became a mother in 2021. I realized I needed a career that allowed me to be present for my daughter while also fulfilling me creatively. In 2023, I finally decided to take the leap and launch my own photography business—and I haven’t looked back since.

At Precious Gems Photography, I specialize in maternity, lifestyle family, newborn, senior portraits, business branding/head shots and boudoir photography, as well as seasonal mini sessions and milestone celebrations like cake smashes. I aim to provide an experience that goes beyond just beautiful images—I create a space where clients feel seen, celebrated, and completely themselves. Whether we’re capturing the strength and softness of a mother-to-be, the giggles of a toddler, or the quiet confidence of a high school senior, my goal is to freeze these fleeting moments in a way that feels timeless and deeply personal.

What sets me apart is the level of connection I build with my clients. Many of them return year after year, inviting me to document every chapter of their lives. I don’t take that lightly. I strive to make every session feel fun, relaxed, and meaningful. I truly believe that when people feel comfortable and valued, the magic shows up in the photos.

I’m also proud to say that I’ve invested in myself and my business by working with an incredible mentor, Jennifer Chavez, who has helped me refine my brand and elevate the client experience I provide. That investment has allowed me to build a business rooted in authenticity, quality, and trust.

At the core of everything I do is a love for storytelling and a deep appreciation for the people who trust me to tell theirs. Precious Gems Photography is more than just a business—it’s a reflection of my heart, my family, and my belief in the beauty of everyday moments.

Have you ever had to pivot?

Absolutely. Before launching my photography business, I was an Area Manager for a crime scene cleaning company—a role that had me on call 24/7, 365 days a year. After having my daughter in 2021, it quickly became clear that the demands of that position no longer aligned with the kind of life I wanted for myself or my family. That was my turning point.

I was fortunate to be able to stay home with her for a while, and during that time, I kept revisiting a passion I’d had since high school: photography. In 2023, I finally listened to what my family had been encouraging me to do for years—I took a leap of faith and opened Precious Gems Photography.

Looking back, I honestly don’t know why I waited so long to make the leap. But once I did, I hit the ground running. I poured my heart into building a business that not only allowed me to express my creativity but also gave me the flexibility to be present as a mother.

This September 1st marks my two-year business anniversary, and it has been nothing short of incredible. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m so excited for what the next chapter holds for Precious Gems Photography.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Honestly, the foundation of my reputation has been built through word of mouth. My clients aren’t just clients—they become part of my extended circle of friends and family. I’m incredibly honored to document some of the most meaningful moments in their lives, from maternity sessions to in-home newborn shoots, family portraits, senior sessions, and themed mini sessions. It’s a privilege to be welcomed back again and again as their families grow.

Another major factor has been learning to truly value what I offer and investing in myself as a business owner. A big turning point for me was finding the right mentor—Jennifer Chavez, a local expert who has been instrumental in helping me shape the vision I had for Precious Gems Photography. Over the past year, she’s helped guide me toward building a brand that feels authentic, intentional, and aligned with the level of service I strive to provide. Her insight has been incredible and deeply impactful to my growth.
