We recently connected with Roberto Nieves and have shared our conversation below.
Roberto, appreciate you joining us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew your brand.
When I reflect on the journey of scaling up my business in website design and branding, it’s a deliberate approach, perseverance, and a commitment to authenticity. Unlike the narrative of overnight success, my trajectory was marked by intentional decisions and a realization that success is not just about growth but about finding your true niche.
Early on, I experienced setbacks – getting laid off twice forced me to reevaluate my reliance on others for income. This was a turning point that fueled my determination to carve my path. Rather than rushing into expansion, I took the time to reflect on what truly mattered to me in my business. I began to understand that success wasn’t solely about the size of the business but about the impact it could make.
One pivotal shift in my mindset was letting go of the pressure to conform to industry norms and focusing on honing in on the clientele I genuinely wanted to work with. I immersed myself in thorough research to identify their needs, preferences, and pain points. This understanding became the foundation for my branding strategy – aligning my services with the specific needs of my target audience.
In the realm of website design, it became apparent that my unique value proposition lay in crafting not just visually appealing sites, but ones that told a compelling story and resonated with the essence of the businesses I served. This personalized approach became my differentiator in a saturated market.
As I scaled up, each decision was guided by a commitment to maintaining this authenticity. I invested in ongoing education to stay at the forefront of design trends but always filtered this knowledge through the lens of what would genuinely benefit my clients. Of course, there were challenges along the way. However, the key was to view mistakes as learning opportunities, tweaking strategies based on real-time feedback.
What emerged from this journey was not just a larger business, but a brand that resonated authentically with its audience. By taking the time to understand my clients, I not only increased revenue but also built lasting relationships. The realization that success is not just about the numbers but about making a genuine impact has been the guiding principle in my scaling-up story. The world needs more stories that emphasize the importance of authenticity in business growth, and I’m proud to share mine as a testament to the power of thoughtful, client-centric scaling.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
From my early days as a passionate artist, I always believed that art could be more than a personal pursuit – it could be a fulfilling career. Despite hearing the skeptics who insisted that the arts wouldn’t lead to financial success, I chose to chart my own course. Drawing on my artistic roots, I found my calling in website design and branding, seamlessly merging creativity with commerce. My journey is a testament to the belief that doing what you love is not only possible but can also be a thriving career.
I offer more than just design services; empowering entrepreneurs to elevate their value and raise their prices through strategic branding and website design is at the core of my mission. By immersing myself in the world of storytelling through visuals, I’ve not only proved the naysayers wrong but also discovered a unique niche where passion and profession coalesce. What sets me apart is not just the designs I create, but the journey I’ve taken to turn my artistic dreams into a thriving business. I encourage potential clients and followers to join me in breaking the mold, embracing the idea that a career rooted in passion is not only feasible but immensely rewarding and that empowering entrepreneurs to enhance their value is a crucial aspect of my work.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely, yes. I’ve come across valuable resources that have significantly impacted my growth. I believe in the power of shared knowledge and have made it a mission to break down barriers in the creative community. There’s a wealth of information that I wish I had access to earlier, and that’s why I share these resources openly on my social media and blog. In my view, there should never be gatekeeping when it comes to helping each other thrive creatively. I’m dedicated to fostering a community where everyone can access the tools and insights needed to fuel their creative journeys.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media was a journey rooted in authenticity and strategic engagement. When I started, I didn’t fixate on the numbers but focused on being genuine. My advice for those beginning their social media presence is to prioritize authenticity over follower count. Be yourself, share your journey, and let your unique voice shine through. I found tremendous value in connecting with the people I wanted to work with. By following and engaging with them, I not only showcased my genuine interest but also built meaningful relationships. It’s equally important to interact within your industry – you never know when these connections will become valuable collaborators or resources. The key is to foster a community where mutual support thrives, transcending follower metrics to create a network that genuinely resonates with your brand.
