We were lucky to catch up with Roberta Fisher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Roberta, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
To be completely honest, everyday isn’t a good day + every week isn’t a great week. Regardless of the bad weeks, days, months, or years, there is absolutely nothing like owning your own business. There are never moments that cross my mind where I think about what it would be like to just have a regular job, because it’s truly hard to imagine myself working for anyone else. Please be advised that I’m not degrading anyone who isn’t a business owner, for the business owning route isn’t for everyone. I’ve always viewed myself as a leader, and being a business owner, I’m able to impact other young women as well as provide them with opportunities + support that allow them to elevate their lives as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a former collegiate athlete that played soccer + ran track. After graduating with my degree in Pre-Law/Legal Studies, I initially planned to work with a sports agent at his law firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but things changed drastically. I ended up moving to Nashville, Tennessee, where I began working with family, then branched out + did my own thing – I wanted to be my own boss + my situation at the time was not catering to that.
Started my child care center in 2015, and the reason that I jumped into child care was not only because I wanted to become a business owner, but because I wanted to create that safe environment for children to be loved + cared for. You never know what is going on in a child’s household, and I learned that through experience growing up. It’s just me trying to break curses + create new ways, for the better.
To be successful in life, I do believe that you have to master discipline. Luckily, my high school track coach, Willie Pauldo, instilled that in me early.
What sets me apart from others, is not only my work ethic, but my resilience.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to make things happen, not only for me, but for those around me. A message I wish I could spread across to everyone who can hear me is this:
“Feed your focus + starve your distractions. At the end of the day, you got YOU, and nobody will have YOU, the way YOU got you! So be good to you, believe in you, cheer for you, and LOVE YOU! Everything else will fall in place for YOU.”

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The website that I built has been the source of new clients for me for a very long time. I believe in convenience + the convenience of my website has allowed so many families to enroll their children hassle free. Additional to that, word of mouth has been a great new source that I’m realizing. Parents, know parents. So, when there are parents seeking care for their children, they often will hear about us through a family that is currently enrolled, or a family that was previously enrolled.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that I can do everything by myself. Growing up, I didn’t have the impactful support many other children are blessed to have, and the first time I was told “no” was the moment where I told myself that when I was able, I was going to make sure that I did whatever I had to do in order to obtain and achieve all the desires I held in my heart.
As I continued to get older, I learned in high school that you don’t have to win alone + that it’s okay to win with a team. The 4×1 taught me that, so shoutout to those Lake Mary Rams!
In college, when we went to Nationals + our team was in shambles at the hands of the coaching staff, we still pulled together + became All Americans, through teamwork + resilience.
Now, as a business owner, being able to delegate certain assignments + duties to others has been a complete blessing, and has allowed me to accomplish other business oriented goals, outside of child care.
All in all, teamwork makes the dream work – and that’s that on that.
