Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robert Wooden III. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robert, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve known i wanted to pursue music as a career since i was 14 years old. I grew up singing on choirs, praise teams, and back up for local churches in my community. When i turned 18, i decided to study at The Illustrious Morgan State University in the pursuit of vocal music. While attending, i had the pleasure of singing with and for big name musicians such as Wynton Marsalis and Marin alsop. As a student, i also pursued a solo career that granted me the opportunity to sing back up for JJ Hairston and open up for Luther Barnes. Unfortunately once covid hit my career hit a pause. However, my good friend Keyonna Leshawn was apart of this great platform called The Poetry Party so myself and a couple of my Artists including J. Aria, Boots SSJ, and Devon Wit da drip, decided to check it out. From that point on Pride music Management and consulting was born. Since that day in April 2022, We’ve been at Baltimore x Baltimore festival, DC Funk Parade, and were Nominated for a Baltimore Crown Award. ITs been a great journey and we’re excited for whats next! We’re currently putting on a showcase partnering with What’s Dope 410 on March 17th, 2023 at 8pm located at 111 Chinquapin round Rd
Robert, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve honestly always been in this industry. SInce i was 14 i’ve been studying the ins and outs of what to do, how to do it, who to know. really learning the ins and outs. I treat it like sports honestly. I watch award show performances, listen to the top billboard songs, and i go watch people live. seeing what the crowd reacts to in real time is truly the key. The types of services we provide are: Music production, artist development, show bookings, contract advisement, and Promotion. I think what really sets US apart from other companies is our passion. I studied Music my whole life. I understand the heart and soul that goes into but i also understand the business aspects of it. I know the difference between a personal song and a song that relates to the masses. Im most proud of the pace and steadiness of our growth. We just started last April and We’ve accomplished so much. With my team, Janaiya Rice, Dezmond Covington, Daisha Mcilwain, theres no telling what we can do because theres nothing we can’t do.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
As an Independent Artist, it’s really difficult to be seen and heard. If you’re not making “radio music” the general public wont hear you unless you have a big following on social media. so i think as a society the best way to help new artists would be to listen to the unknown. Look for songs by people you’ve never heard of. You never know if its good or not until you listen to it. They say don’t knock it until you try it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is definitely someone relating to my song. like i said i started in gospel so im big on making a connection to your audience. so when someone comes up to me after a performance and they tell me “i felt that” or “you spoke to me” i really appreciate that.
