We were lucky to catch up with Robert Szertics recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Robert thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the bigger risks I’ve taken is to leave my home country Sweden for the U.S.. I moved to Los Angeles in 2012 to study interior design. After graduating I had a hard time finding a job within my field of work. And in 2015 I started working as a manager in music. My team had Billboard singer-songwriters and overall great artists. But, after a few years, and as I’ve always been a huge fan of tv and film, I wanted to approach that business instead. Taking another huge risk in 2023 by starting my own management company. And today, I work as a talent manager since four years and I’m also the founder of “Madhouse Talent Management” representing actors and artists around the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After graduating I had a hard time finding a job within my field of work. And in 2015 I started working as a manager in music. My team had Billboard singer-songwriters and overall great artists. I am very disciplined and service minded. Have been ever since I was a young teenager. My closest family and friends would describe me as extremely organized and focused. Always trying to be there for my clients no matter what it is for.
I am very proud of taking the step to start my own management company in a foreign country. Creating opportunities for artists in television and film.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Mainly it’s been through agents I share clients with and have a great relationship to. Being able to send an email or give them a call to check their clients availability has been a great source, if not the best. Attending red carpets, events, film festivals is also a great opportunity to meet your next star.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Be transparent, loyal, communicate with your team, don’t exclude anyone, especially if you’re a smaller team. It shines through right away. Be honest and stand up to your mistakes, even if it shows that you’re not on top of your things that specific day or week.
