We were lucky to catch up with Robert Prentice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Robert , appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
I love the fact that the children in Japan clean their schools and bathrooms. We need that here. Secondly, Life skills such as planning, creative thinking, decision making, time management, building healthy relationships, etc.
I have been working with schools and young people for 35 years delivering these sessions, and we need more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
A little over 35 years ago I started the business with a $100.00 BILL. I bought some business cards and rented a small closet/office for a month at a time. I told the landlord I would be able to pay the rent at the end of the month. He Agreed. I needed meeting rooms and places to take clients to lunch so I went and convinced and sold a HILTON Hotel on the idea of hiring me to train their people on customer service and leadership skills but instead of paying me in cash, they could pay me in meeting rooms, sleeping rooms, and meals at the restaurant and they agreed for $5000.00 for a years worth of my services.
I started holding meetings where customers started paying me for my life tools, and leadership tools in my workshops and meetings and the rest is history. I have had over a million people in my sessions and meetings on date.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Delivering a quality product. Excellence in all things. Zero defect is the DAILY goal. Though we are not perfect we strive and work hard to deliver value to our clients. Taking responsibility for things if and when they go wrong. People respect people who are accountable and responsible.
Plus, I invest quite a bit in planning and developing written strategies and thinking through things on paper before jumping in with both feet. Every project has a Written Action Plan. in the early days of business, I crashed and burned way too much. I learned from the school of hard knocks that I need to have a written plan of action with every idea that pops into my head.
This process of writing out an action plan is very much like purchasing insurance for my business. It just works when you need it.
