We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robert Peres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robert below.
Robert, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
being mischaracterized is something us Mexican American people deal with in this Rap game. i love my “chicano Rap” but dont put me in abox cuz i will knock the walls down and show you how we as Mexicano/Chicano rap Artist are very versatile im heavy with the lyrics i love to write and i hope that shows in my music
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
i was born and raised in Albuquerque, New mexico South Valley Area. i went to school at Kit Carson, Ernie pyle mid school and Rio Grande HS. i was born in 1982 at Presbyterian hospital. i fell into the industry on accident hanging out with the homies watching them write music, i jumped in and started writing about 2006 not knowing anything about the craft but learned and applied what ive learned since then, what sets me apart is that i have my own style in the mix out in New Mexico i write about my expieriences in life and what ive seen living in the south valley where it was a very vio;ent place growing up. i am most proud of where i came from to where i am at because most of us dont escape the grips of poverty and the “hood mindset” its a gift and a curse if you ask me to be from the hood and be hood… the main thing you will get from me is that im humble and i work hard every single day to reach my goals i have set in life, my art, my family and friends i have much more music coming soon all year 2024 videos, interviews, shows and merch you can find me on all digital platforms ROB WIT THA BOP
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
well i am very resilient in 2004 i lost my best friend, my big brother the biggest inspiration in my life to a car accident about 10 years later my dad got deported to mexico and my parents got a divorce and now in 2023 im going thru a divorce after 20 years together.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
the most rewarding is seeing the people talk about my music good or bad or when i perform i can see the people rapping along then actually hanging out with the Fans, before, during and after the show when they wanna take pics or if they wanna buy merch is also a great feeling
