Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Bella Media stemmed from a love of media and production. I was in the AV business as an employee and as an owner, but I wanted to capture people’s voices and stories on a more personal level. My wife and I bought our first professional camera and started shooting weddings on the weekends. This led to getting larger job opportunities and deciding to go all in on Bella Media. In the past 19+ years, we’ve been able to build a team of amazing creatives with the same values and goals.

Robert, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my career in media with an AV company; eventually I owned my own AV company. But I wanted to do more, I had always had a love for media and production. So I created Bella Media to be able to tell people’s stories and bring people’s ideas to life. We offer a variety of services ranging from professional photography, interviews with cinematic storytelling, podcasts, full commercials, and campaigns. We set ourselves apart by treating our customers like family. We go above and beyond for our clients in every aspect, along with the ability to give them a personal experience. By God’s grace we have never advertised ourselves; we have gained new clients solely through relationships and referrals of current and previous clients.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
All of our clients have come to us through referrals because we have never advertised our work. Our current or previous clients would refer us to their family, business associates, or friends. Accumulating new clients has been a very natural process for Bella Media.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Bella Media began as a side hustle, but I like to think of it more as a side passion. When we filmed weddings every weekend and had more requests than we could handle, we decided it was time to take Bella Media to the next level. We got our first large client as a result of a referral from the bride of one of the weddings we filmed. She recommended us to her mother, who owned one of the largest advertising agencies in Houston at the time. As a result, Bella Media became the company it is today because we took the jump, taking the company from a side hustle (passion) to a full media and production company.
