We recently connected with Robert Fairley III and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of my most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on is my first self portrait painting in my “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” series. This painting is 5 feet tall and 7 feet long. I created this painting when I moved into my very first apartment. It was a brand new start and I was overjoyed with my growth and accomplishments with myself and my sexuality. This piece showcases my confidence, growth, and being bigger than life and I love that.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well I’ve been in love with art since age 4, but started taking it more seriously in high school once I realized I really had a strong passion for art and great artistic talent. Once I graduated from high school, I completed 2 years at a local art college in his hometown , but dropped out due to lack of support, creative differences with professors, and wanting to be able to create art the way I wanted to. After leaving college , I still continued to pursue my art career while battling my anxiety , depression, and sexuality. After realizing my truths , my career progressed and my work got more honest and exciting.
My art has an interesting mix. I started out with majority of my work being celebrity artwork , but I’ve started creating more from myself , life experiences, and erotic fantasies. I started erotic artwork during the pandemic in 2020 because I kept receiving nude images from random guys and figured I could use that experience for inspiration. After I posted my first erotic painting , it got so much buzz and in that moment , I realized that I not only had an audience for this type of work , but creating this type of art was exciting to make. The artwork just gets more wild, detailed , and exciting with crazy thought provoking concepts and that’s what I believe separates me from other artists.
I want all my clients and supporters to know that when they’re buying a painting from me, that it’s truly one of a kind and very special to me as well because it’s supporting my dream. I’m most proud of my growth and how far I’ve come with my artistry and self image. I work on different paintings every week , but I’m the painting that’s forever changing and I want people to see and experience that growth with me through my social media.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
It’s funny because I actually was just having a conversation with someone recently about this topic and they said that I should turn my work into NFTs. I told them no because I personally don’t fully understand the concept of them and also I honestly just really love the whole concept of physically purchasing artwork. The whole digital thing is in my opinion trying to erase artists like me who still believe in traditional ways of selling artwork and making it.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I actually love this question lol. My main drive has been getting so well established and financially wealthy with my artwork that I can not only move out of Nashville , but retire my mother from her job and have the both of us set. Like I want my career to go so far that I don’t ever have to think of picking up any part time job working for somebody else ever again.
