We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robert Diaz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robert below.
Robert, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Oh, I remember that moment like it was yesterday. I was up on that stage, singing one of my own songs, and something incredible happened. It was like this rush of pure life surged through me, in a way I’d never felt before. The music, the crowd’s energy, and pouring my emotions into the performance created this magical mix that just lit me up.
And you know what? Seeing the crowd react, feeling the vibes they were giving back, it hit me hard. I thought, “Whoa, this is it. This is what I’m meant to do.” It wasn’t just about liking music or enjoying being on stage; it was like a whole new world opened up—a world where I could use my music to connect with people on a whole different level.
That’s when I understood that my artistic side wasn’t just a hobby or something to keep to myself. It was a genuine calling, a chance to make a real impact. It’s about sharing stories, evoking feelings, and bringing people together through something I create. So, that moment was when I knew, deep down, that I had to pursue this artistic path professionally. From then on, it’s been a journey of perfecting my craft and staying true to that initial connection I felt with the audience.

Robert, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m all about music and storytelling, and it’s been quite the ride!
So, rewind to when I was just a 10-year-old with big dreams. I stepped into the world of radio and that’s where my fascination for music took root. Singing contests? Yep, count me in! Those early experiences were like sparks that ignited my passion for music.
When I hit 15, I took things up a notch and started writing my own songs. It’s crazy how penning down your thoughts and feelings can be so liberating. Fast forward a bit, and I found myself winning the song festival in Guadalajara, not once, not twice, but for three consecutive years. Those wins were more than trophies; they were affirmations that I was on the right path.
Then, I decided to take the plunge and headed to Mexico City. The big city lights brought me face-to-face with some legendary songwriters like Armando Manzanero, Edgar Oceransky, and Carlos Carreira. Connecting with these maestros was like stepping into a whole new world of inspiration.
In 2018, I took a major step and recorded my first EP, “Dame Tu Boca.” The magic happened at Garambullo Records in Queretaro, thanks to the talented Edgar Oceransky and Adrian Noroña. This EP was more than just a collection of songs; it was a piece of my heart that I shared with the world.
And since then, my journey has taken me to incredible places. You might have caught me on Telemundo, Televisa, or TV Azteca, sharing my songs with a wider audience.
But what really makes me stand out, what truly sets me apart, is that every single song I create is a slice of my life. It’s my stories, my experiences, my heart laid bare in melodies and lyrics. That’s the difference—I’m not just singing words; I’m sharing pieces of myself with you through my music. And that, my friends, is what makes my journey so uniquely me.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want my music to be like that friend you can count on when you’re going through different phases of love and life.
When someone’s falling in love, I hope my songs become the words they want to say but can’t find. It’s that feeling of sharing your heart through lyrics, of dedicating a tune to that one person who just gets you. And on the flip side, when things get tough and hearts are hurting, I want my music to be a comforting hand on the shoulder, letting them know they’re not alone.
You see, my goal is to be there in those moments that hit us hard—whether it’s the rush of emotions when you’re in love or the ache when it all falls apart. I want my music to be the backdrop to those feelings, the soundtrack that helps us heal, celebrate, and navigate this crazy ride we’re all on. Because in the end, isn’t that what life’s all about? Connecting through the ups and downs, and finding a little bit of ourselves in the music that speaks to our souls.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Absolutely, let me share a story that really changed how I saw things. There was a time when I was totally caught up in the whole fame game—the likes, the attention, you name it. It was like I was performing for the world, not for myself.
Then, a lightbulb went off in my head. I realized I was missing the point. So, I decided to take a step back and do something radical: I started being just me. No masks, no pretending. I began pouring my heart into these soulful ballads and heartfelt boleros. It was like a musical diary of my life.
At first, it felt like I was baring my soul in front of a crowd. But you know what? Something magical happened. As I started doing what I genuinely loved and showing the real me, people resonated with it in a way I never imagined.
It was like they could sense the authenticity, the raw emotion, and they wanted to be a part of that journey. That’s when I learned the biggest lesson: It’s not about the numbers, the likes, or the applause. It’s about sharing your truth, doing what lights up your soul, and letting people connect with the genuine human behind the music.
So, now I believe in the power of being unapologetically myself in my art. And you know what? It’s brought a whole new level of connection and meaning to my music—a connection that’s real, honest, and profoundly human.
