Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robert Bojorquez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Robert, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We started Partyfish Media, a podcast network/co-op in Seattle, when starting up our own podcast and amassing resources for DIY podcasting. In Seattle, lots of folks were creating podcasts in their own corners of the space and we thought a local studio resource and co-op model would really help unify the community. Our guiding idiom is “a rising tide raises all ships” and in this co-op we’d be able to cross-promote each other and find new audiences through outreach to diverse podcast listening niches.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Robert Bojorquez, a filmmaker and podcast producer in Seattle, WA. Around 2017, I was looking for new projects that took a lighter lift than short filmmaking and that led me to podcasting! What started with one podcast became a co-op and network that has served about a dozen Seattle-area podcast producer teams as of 2023. While we no longer have a shared studio space, we still provide marketing, content, and operational support for our podcast partners. Our producing and incubation approach starts with getting the show concept and format right first, and then tailoring a release schedule to the producer’s bandwidth to prevent burnout on a hobby that’s supposed to be a FUN project! We regard our produced shows as approachable, fun, interactive, and experimental content that tries to push the podcast medium beyond celebrity interview and formless chatting.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Our trio of partners that run Partyfish Media go way back to elementary school: I serve as Executive Producer, Kwesi Phillips is our Creative Director, and Will Paulson is our Technical Director. We’ve been best friends for more than 20 years and love working together.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creativity is directly driven by collaboration and disrupting content formats, whether that’s in the podcast space with Partyfish Media, or otherwise. I love spending time with others and if creating projects can happen at the same time with an emphasis on inclusion and fun – why not?
