We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rob Wellz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rob below.
Alright, Rob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Growing up, my best friend became my brother. And me and my brother had plenty of talent as well as a strong work ethic, good people skills, and a story to tell. With a passion for hip hop which is pretty much too distinct for words, we worked hard and got some money together to get our first microphone to start recording our raps after school. We were students to the game, and we were more than willing to not only learn about the lavish part of being rappers, but also the history and the business behind it. Once we started really devoting our time and energy fully into every aspect, along with our other brother, we started to really embody our thoughts, feelings, and rhymes into reality. And it became our whole lives. Once we starting gaining some traction and positive reviews from the music we were releasing, we realized the love for the art as well as the gratification from the people around us enjoying what we created, we knew it was way bigger than us. It became apparent that we were born to not just tell our story, but our family and our community’s stories as well. We decided to take on the challenge and responsibility to represent who, what and where we are. Eventually we started a clothing brand for everyone around us to be able to be a part of the movement we had created. Soon enough with more knowledge and experience we ended up incorporating both our clothing line and record label to show how serious we really are about this lifestyle and journey we committed to. The love we have received since the beginning has been our driving force, and the support after losing our brother and co founder has been the concrete to make sure we never stop what we started.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Being a hip hop fan made becoming a hip hop artist a no brainer. The feeling from being able to rhyme a thought or feeling correlating to your real life and having other people react and enjoy it made it become a daily routine. Than, once after getting positive feedback from the clothing line created for the fans it became clear that all i was doing was answering a calling and this was the life i was meant for. Our hundreds of songs and dozens of videos can be found all over the internet on most if not all streaming platforms, and the fall collection of 40 Star Apparel is on the way. My latest music video with Vado is now available on his Youtube channel, and many other songs with reputable artist are also available to be streamed.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty. Humbling myself at an early age and knowing there are millions of people in the world trying to do the same thing I am doing, it helped me to realized time, patience, determination & dedication are the true recipe to succeed in this industry. Being smart and fearless helped to break down doors and get me in positions most people would be hesitant to explore and that has gotten me a lot of respect when people realize I hav gotten as far as I have simply with building a solid team and being my own manager.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I had lost my brother without being able to say goodbye and I will never be able to recover from that. I lost my rap partner who I can never go to the studio and rhyme with anymore and I will never recover from that. I lost my business partner who I created a clothing brand with and spread the word along the east coast with and I will never recover from that. But I also defined my life and who I am and what I am meant for standing side by side with him the whole way through and for that which I am eternally grateful for, not only do I recognize the amount of people we have already reached who need me to stay strong to keep making them proud and representing them to the fullest; but I also cannot let the candle burn out or let the amazing energy we created fade into a memory. I have to keep pushing everyday the same way I always have because that’s what I would be doing if my brother was here. So that’s what I have to do since he is no longer here in the physical, but I live everyday walking with his spirit to represent him and remind people of his greatness daily.
