Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rob Waddy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Rob, thanks for joining us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
As The Owner of Gas Up Athletics and President of the Apopka Raptors AAU Youth Football & Cheer Non Profit Organization I believe in paying it forward so I give discounts on training for Apopka Raptors and 15% of all Gas Up Athletics income is donated to the Apopka Raptors AAU Youth Football & Cheer Non Profit Organization every Month.

Rob, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being an ex Athlete I already had a love for football more than most, once my son started playing football at the young age of 6 I wanted him to be prepared as possible for what was to come. I began training him and teaching him the fundamentals and techniques of the game of football and he definitely grasped everything, He will be continuing his football journey at Apopka High School this season. I fell in love with the teaching and watching some of my young Athletes produce on the field so much I began being asked to train young athletes. This began Gas Up Athletics Journey, training kids from ages 5 and up I’ve had the pleasure of helping produce 3 Freshman Varsity Starters along with plenty of Starting High School talent around Central Florida and Youth Organization Athletes.

Any advice for managing a team?
One thing I always say first is know your players and make sure they know you look at them as more than a touchdown, a block or a tackle let them know you care and be personable. Making sure everyone holds each other accountable for our actions on and off the field but in a constructive way. You have to build a family before you build a team if they don’t want to play for each other it will not work. Keep the energy and competition high and always have some type of award/Recognition for good.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I was in a very unhappy situation getting up going to do something I had no drive to want to do, so I gave myself a date I was going to start my own football training service and be happy doing what I wanted to do. Like they say if you love it it’s not work so I set off on my journey with 1 credit card and put it all towards equipment, LLC, ECT and here we are. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
