We recently connected with Rob Parker and have shared our conversation below.
Rob, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
MLBbro.com is a website that covers Black and brown Major Leaguers. We tell the stories of Black players who have contributed to Major League Baseball – both now and in the past. We have a partnership with MLB. Our staff is amazing. We have nearly 70 people working for the staff. Our goal, along with covering underserved Black players, is to develop the next generation of Black baseball writers, broadcaster and content producers.

Rob, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Always wanted to be a sportswriter since age nine. I wanted a column and my pic in the paper. I grew up in New York City. My big break came in 1980 when I wrote letters to the three NYC publishers looking for financial help to start an all-sports newspaper in high school. Rupert Murdoch, then-the publisher of the NY Post, sent me a check for $50 to cover printing costs. It launched meeting into this career.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Started this site with no investment capital, used my own money. Started site with 14 peeps. It’s grown to nearly 70 staffers.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The stories of the Black Major Leaguer can’t be forgotten, lost. It’s a huge part of our culture. We want to preserve that.
