Rob, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later

We started Him&His Design during a pivotal moment in both of our lives and careers. It was in 2020, and I was at a crossroads—my creative energy was bursting, but Covid had also halted any and all business that we were involved with. Starting the business felt like the natural next step. We had both stopped working because of the pandemic and it was our “now or never” moment. While it was a leap into the unknown, we were determined to create something that felt authentically us.

If we could go back in time, we don’t think we’d start sooner or later—it was just the right moment. Any earlier, we wouldn’t have had the experience or confidence to navigate the challenges of running a business. Later, we might have gotten too comfortable in someone else’s world and missed the spark to start fresh. Timing really is everything.

That said, if we’d started sooner, our approach would have been scrappier. There’s value in that, but we wouldn’t have been able to offer the polished, high-end vision that defines Him&His today. Starting later might have meant accumulating more capital or connections, but we also would’ve missed out on learning through doing, which has been invaluable.

Rob, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Absolutely! Adam and I are the creative directors and founders of Him&His Design, based in Cleveland, Ohio. Our journey into the design world started long before we officially launched the business in 2020—it’s been a lifelong passion for creating spaces that feel personal, curated, and inspiring. we’ve always been drawn to the way good design can completely transform how people live, work, and experience their surroundings.

Before starting Him&His Design, we worked for several years in different industries, honing our skills in both the creative and business sides of the field. During that time, we realized we had a vision for a design firm that could merge high-end, bespoke interiors with thoughtfully curated furniture and accessories. That’s where Him&His Design was born—a boutique design firm that blends design services.

At Him&His Design, we specialize in interior design services and custom furniture and home accessories. Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Word of mouth! Easily the answer to that questions is word of mouth. We are extremely grateful for our clients because they are our biggest champions and word of mouth has been our best source of new clients since day one.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Adam working in the event design industry and myself working in the real estate world ultimately lead us to where we are today. I would take on side projects with real estate clients, mainly investors, working with them to renovate homes. Adam was in the design industry day in and day out with weddings and events. It ultimately scaled up tom where it is today during the pandemic when people were spending more time in their homes. We were helping friends and family and when we got our first “paid” job we thought: we HAVE to keep this going. Now we are a small but mighty team of 4 and we couldn’t be more proud of where this journey has taken us.
