We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rob Moffitt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rob below.
Rob, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. ther times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
After spending so much time in the field of nursing, it wasn’t easy leaving all that behind to venture into the unknown world of plant design. Nursing was stable and this was a whole new beast, right in the middle of Covid.
When I began, I wasn’t familiar with the market nor the clientele and certainly didn’t anticipate the expenses and complexity that comes with running a plant truck. From dealing with permitting nightmares to nearly dying of heat exhaustion in the middle of summer, I learned the hard way that selling small houseplants out of a truck that someone could simply buy on their next big box store visit wasn’t a great strategy. The truck was ultimately a financial failure and without the pivot to where things are today, the business would not have been successful.

Rob, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name’s Rob and I’m a Kenosha, Wisconsin native who began my career as a traveling nurse. Upon relocating to Los Angeles in 2013, I started volunteering at my friend’s local plant shop which fueled my interest in plants and led me to convert a step van into a mobile garden called ‘The Haus Plant’ in 2020. After its remarkable success I expanded the business to include our first showroom, providing more space for the company to grow. Over the last few years, The Haus Plant has flourished, boasting a full roster of employees and a diverse clientele with no signs of slowing down.
At The Haus Plant we specialize in beautiful, high-end works of living art. We offer both interior and exterior ‘plantscaping’ services which marry unique specimens with vintage and antique planters from all around the world to create one-of-a-kind
designs. We also provide routine plant maintenance to care for our client’s plants and keep them healthy all year around.
Although high-end plant design is a niche industry, we still have competitors and we’re proud to provide a fresh and modern take with a high level of customer service.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our creative journey is driven by our unique niche industry, where every project we tackle is unlike any other. While financial growth is essential for us to grow and acquire more rare and interesting specimens, our passion lies in creating new pieces of living art for, and fostering meaningful relationships with, our clients.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What’s helped us the most with building our reputation has been our fresh and bold approach as newcomers in an industry with little new faces. While the market has been largely cornered, we’ve made it our mission to bring a unique perspective that stands out from the traditional offerings.
Our team of young and friendly individuals adds a dynamic energy to everything we do, allowing us to connect with clients in a way that feels both innovative and approachable. A combination that has been essential at establishing our place within the industry.
