We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rob Edwards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rob thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client?
During a Strategy & Tactics meeting, I once told a client of mine that she needed to spend more of her money. She looked at me, puzzled, almost as if this wasn’t the advice she was expecting to receive from her financial advisor.
I explained, “You’re healthy, your family is taken care of, you have every need met, and your assets are growing faster than you can spend them. The biggest risk you are facing right now is the risk of regret, or that you get to the end of life asking too many questions of ‘What if?’”
This isn’t validation for others to spend recklessly. However, for this particular client—and for some others—it may be worth spending boldly on the things in your life with the most upside or the greatest potential reward for you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Certainly! I’m Rob Edwards, a nationally recognized advisor who helps millionaire families navigate the complexities of their wealth. I’ve been in the industry for almost two decades, and as a born-and-raised Naples, Florida native, I’m especially passionate about empowering the families of South Florida in their wealth management journeys.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’d like to think I take an innovative approach to engaging with the clients we work with. I prioritize spending time creating multichannel content that’s valuable to the clients we work with and others considering starting their strategic wealth management journey.
Apart from that, I would attribute my overall success in the wealth management sector to my consistency and dedication in the industry, along with the recognition I’ve received over the years—such as being named to AdvisorHub’s 2023 Advisors to Watch: Top 50 Next Gen Wealth and earning the Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisor Best-in-State from 2022 to 2024.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2018, I started my own wealth management team, The Edwards Group of Wells Fargo Advisors. I was lucky enough to attract and lead an incredible team of experienced and empathetic financial professionals. As a team, we challenged the status quo, constantly seeking ways to deliver high-quality investment advice in the best way possible. But then, family needs came calling.
Today, I’m happy to share that The Edwards Group team has merged with Edwards Asset Management, a boutique wealth management firm backed by the strength and vast resources of Wells Fargo. Edwards Asset Management was started by my father, and working closely with him at this point in both of our careers and growth paths simply made sense.
