We were lucky to catch up with Rob Ayers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rob, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a historical figure you look up to? Who are they and what lessons or values have you learned from them?
Coach K was always somebody I looked up to. He coached at Duke for over 40 years and I always liked his teaching on leadership. One thing I took away from his message on leadership is that it’s always about the relationship with people and not the monetary stuff that matters the most in business. Every day when I meet with a client, I want to establish that relationship first.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started Ayers Landscape and Design LLC March 2007. I specialize in residential landscape design and help people bring their vision for their yard into reality. When I was around 13 I helped take care of my parents yard and then decided to start improving the looks of their yard by designing new plant beds and incorporating different shrubs/trees into their yard. I also wanted to add color to their yard as well. I worked in retail through college, but always wanted to start my own landscape and design business.

Have you ever had to pivot?
So after running Ayers Landscape and Design LLC for 5 years, I lost my Mom in 2012. About 6 months later I got into collecting sports cars. I then started another business called Cars and Coffee Morrisville Inc. in 2015. Cars and Coffee Morrisville started small, but now is the largest Cars and Coffee on the East Coast. Running two businesses, isn’t something I planned on, but I welcome the challenge each day.

Any advice for managing a team?
I think the most beneficial thing when managing a team is adapting to each person’s personality.and know what motivates each person. When a leader can do that, it makes the team stronger.
