We recently connected with Rob Adams and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Growing up I was never someone who felt like I had any special talents or skills, I felt like I was just the average kid, middle of the pack. That feeling still sits with me today, even when I know I have developed my skills & found my talents. I still feel like that average kid in the middle of the pack. I want my legacy to be about showing the next generation like me that it is possible. I want to share my trials & tribulations with the ones that don’t think they’re anything more than “average” because they don’t know how wrong they are. I would want nothing more than people to tell stories about how I helped them grow & inspired them to chase that silly dream they had one day. I want to grow up & watch the next generation of creatives take what tools we left behind & take things to levels we couldn’t imagine. I want to help push the envelope of my industry.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Rob Adams, I’m 28 years old & I am currently based out of Philadelphia, PA. I am the Co-Owner of Cream By Eighty, a clothing brand revolving the lifestyle of being what we call a “Young City Dweller”. Since starting this journey with my business partner, I’ve been given so much trust be to creatively free & try my hand at everything I could possibly want to do. From learning how to design logos, graphics & even actual garments, to learning how to shoot photography. I never thought that I would be in this position or have any of these opportunities presented to me & I think I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been doing it my way and putting out work that is truly authentic to who I am as a person. I think that also plays into what I want people to know about our brand, we are giving you what’s authentically us. We really are Young City Dwellers & we know there are millions like us out there. We just want every one of you to know we represent you.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I’ve always someone who always said yes to opportunities because I wanted to hone my skills & discover where my place was in this world since a child. One day I was approached to model for a design company called “Eight-N-Eighty” after doing the shoot I met with the owner to received some items from the drop & he introduced me to his new project “Cream By Eighty” we sat down for hours in this Dunkin Donuts in Southwest Philly talking about designs & how we could see the brand growing. From there we kept meeting at the same Dunkin until we decided it was time to fully launch our first collection.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’m always that person that wants to be outside, I grew up skateboarding & hanging out at my local skate shop. Watching them serve the community & help fight off the reputation of being “too cool” cause we rode skateboards. Watching them treat every single person the same no matter where you came from or how you skated really set a good example for me to follow when it became my turn to step into the skate shop. I spend 5 years working for those same dudes that I grew up looking up to & watching, they gave me such an opportunity to give back the same way they did. I don’t know if I’d have made the same impact I did on our community without those role models I looked up to growing up.
