We recently connected with Ro Rynd and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that there are 2 parts to be successful. Number one, I truly believe that success is a mindset. One must believe that they are already successful to be successful. Every part of the process, whether gain or set back, is an experience to achieve success. Of course, this is easier said than done. We often doubt ourselves and are inhibited by fear of failure. While it took me a little time to get to this mindset, I do not believe in failure rather only teachable and learning moments in time. The second part of success is making sure that one is doing what they are supposed to be doing in this life. If one is aligned with their correct position, then there is only forward motion.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My career is a funny one with many twists and turns. I graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Political Science. After I was in the work force for a bit, I decided that I’d like to be my own boss, so I opened a women’s clothing store called “Moxie” in Atlanta, Georgia. After a couple of years, I realized that I was almost doing what I wanted to do, but I was not quite there yet. I decided to sell the store and go to work for an Interior Design firm. While working as an associate in the firm, I was able to get a job as a behind the scenes interior designer on a popular television home show, and the rest is history! When my husband and I decided to have children, we moved from Georgia back to his hometown in Texas. I had so many amazing design resources in Georgia, so I had to dive in and find my people in the DFW area. Once, I opened for business as a designer in the area, I would spend days driving the Design District in Dallas perusing through showrooms to find resources. My client list grew by word of mouth. In 2017, I partnered with 5 other women owned businesses to become part of Local Design Studio in Fort Worth. Our studio is a magic maker! We have so much fun and it’s amazing what happens when women support other women.
From this partnership, Kori Green and I started Clearly Handbags and The Faceted Home together. Who knows what we’ll do next? The sky is the limit!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My story sounds like it is smooth with no bumps, but that is absolutely not the case. My business savvy only grew from the troubles in my personal life. As I previously mentioned, my husband and I moved to the DFW area from Atlanta, GA once we decided to have children. We moved in 2002 to his hometown where I knew about 2 people. Between making friends and many infertility problems, it’s a wonder that I got pregnant at all, but it was a very difficult pregnancy of triplets. My beautiful babies were born via emergency c section at my 27 week appointment. My 2 boys made it, but we lost my daughter after 2 days. We were absolutely devastated, but we had 2 beautiful baby boys to raise. When the boys were 2, we were blessed with another son. At this point, I was juggling my young family and doing interior design work, as I could.
In 2007, my life changed forever, when my husband passed away. My boys were 4 and 2. My world fell apart, but looking back, my work saved me. Of course, I had immeasurable support from family and friends in the community, but I really found my stride as a single mom working.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think that to build your reputation within your market, you must be true to yourself. There is only one you. Do you. Do what you know. Be authentic and honest. Don’t try to imitate or be something that you are not.
