We caught up with the brilliant and insightful RJ Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi RJ, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business dawned on me during my inaugural year in the construction industry. From the outset, my vision was crystal clear: to construct the finest homes imaginable in the South Bay. I yearned for this goal so intensely that I could almost taste it. Year after year, my aspiration fueled me to push the boundaries and outdo our previous accomplishments. In my very first year, we were engrossed in the construction of upscale custom residences in Manhattan Beach, alongside multi-unit projects throughout the South Bay. This period taught me invaluable lessons in managing a multitude of subcontractors concurrently and deciphering the exacting standards of our discerning clientele – skills I still rely on today. Running my own business is an arduous endeavor, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The incomparable reward of witnessing contented clients move into their dream homes is beyond words. Seeing our houses gracing the town fills me with immense pride, as each one is a testament to our unwavering commitment to the craft. These structures are, to me, works of art that perpetually stoke my appetite for taking on ever grander and more ambitious projects.


We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Our journey to building a robust social media audience was a result of a strategic and dedicated approach. First and foremost, we identified our target audience and tailored our content to resonate with their interests and needs. Consistency was key; we maintained a regular posting schedule across multiple platforms to stay on our audience’s radar. Having an experienced creator to film content for your social media presence is absolutely crucial in today’s digital landscape as well. The saturation online is a huge issue, if our content is not up to par we will just end up being another account online.We have an in house creator that not only ensures the technical quality of our content but also elevates the overall storytelling and engagement potential
Our top tips for other companies seeking to grow their online following: know your audience intimately, maintain consistency, prioritize engagement, explore collaborations, and never underestimate the power of data-driven insights to refine your approach. Building a social media following takes time and effort, but the results are well worth the investment.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is a cornerstone of business growth and it is often underestimated in its significance. It’s the organic, authentic endorsement of our service from our satisfied homeowners and it holds immense power. When people have positive experiences, they naturally share them with their friends, family, and social circles. This genuine enthusiasm and personal connection carry a level of trust that traditional advertising can’t easily replicate. ( although advertising doesn’t hurt)
