We were lucky to catch up with RJ Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
RJ, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Honestly I’m in love with the process. There is something about having a passion that does not provide me instant gratification. There are so many highs and lows within this industry that I am constantly feeling something. But to be clear I still work a full time job but Music is where my heart is.

RJ, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I made my first composition using a PlayStation 2 in 2004 was hooked. Now, I can pretend like this journey is easy I eventually took a munch needed hiatus from music which lasted nearly a decade. I returned to music in 2019 and I am so appreciative to still have the ability to produce at a high level. My story is one of redemption. One of persistence and a true pursuit of happiness. Returning to music has almost felt like returning to who I was so long ago it’s surreal. I think I am different from people that do what I do because of the emotion I put into my craft I truly am here to help people get their thoughts out to the masses and that makes me happy. If I never made a penny from it, it would still be something I would enjoy doing.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Oh man there are so many channels to support creatives these days. But from my vantage point, I would like to see more people like and share things that resonate with them. Now I’m not just saying to mindlessly like and share just because someone created it but I mean don’t be afraid to champion someone don’t be afraid to mention someone on your story, even if they are not a popular artist or creative, a lot of people seem to be only willing to celebrate, wins with creators rather than helping them take on the fight to be seen or heard. Secondly, they can buy Merch, spend with the small businesses and creators that are trying to make content for the masses to enjoy. There are a lot of places where music and art can be consumed but going direct is always was best for the creative..
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That it’s OK to be you in the word of Art everything is subjective it’s not like you can go out there and put up 40 points and secure a win for your team. You have to navigate your own self perception realize your self-worth and stay in your lane, it took a while for me to realize that it was OK not to make the music that I didn’t want to make. I guess what I had to unlearn was that there was no one way to get it right you just have to do what you love and stay true to that.
