We recently connected with Rizz McCleary and have shared our conversation below.
Rizz, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew from the start I wanted to pursue my artistic passion professionally. A job layoff turned this enjoyable hobby into a viable career, offering time flexibility, growth potential, and greater work autonomy overall.

Rizz, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born and raised in Philadelphia, a diverse and music-driven city, my early exposure to hip-hop, R&B, and reggae, which influenced Baltimore club music, sparked my lifelong passion for music. My journey into DJing began unexpectedly when my brother brought home turntables and a mixer. As his inquisitive younger brother, I eagerly learned the craft, from equipment setup to playing vinyl records, with guidance from him and my late cousin, DJ Maples.
What started as a hobby blossomed into a career, allowing me to build a strong reputation as a versatile DJ. This has led to numerous weddings, nightlife and corporate residencies such as USAA, Local School Districts, US Military Ball,Macy’s, Nordstrom Stores, Marriott and Hyatt resorts and hotels., as well as countless private events throughout Texas
As Owner of RM Entertainment, a full-service company specializing in mobile DJs, photo booths, lighting and more for private events, I pride myself on creating unforgettable and fun experiences that turn clients into fans. Building and scaling this company in under two years is my proudest achievement, fueled by my passion and relentless drive. What sets me apart is my versatility across all music genres, ensuring I can cater to any client’s taste and age group. Staying ahead of entertainment trends allows me to offer a comprehensive and cutting-edge service.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can share knowledge and support. It cost $0 to share or engage on an online post. We’re all pushing our agendas forward and any support means a lot.
Finding a mentor and networking go hand in hand. When you’re out and spark a conversation with someone, they ask, what do you do? Don’t tell them about your 9-5 job. Confidently say I’m a full-time DJ or whatever field you’re in, to let it be known.
As for the DJ world, the conversation can segue you into a business or a relationship you didn’t know you needed. Social media can be a big help for networking, connecting with others alike, showing up to events and introducing yourself to the DJ and promoters, exchanging info, showing up for support to their events, inviting them to yours, and building a relationship. It costs nothing to support one another.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is achieving autonomy and financial independence through creative work.
