We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful River Rabbitte. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with River below.
Hi River, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I think that as a band, the biggest risk that we’ve taken is actually starting the band! Frank and I had a hard rule that the mixing of our musical worlds was not something that we were going to do because he had his project and I had mine, and it felt safer to not take a chance and blend those two worlds together. I came home one day and he was working on a new song for his band and I projected from the other side of our loft that he was, in fact, “playing the bass line wrong.” He was like, “First of all, I wrote it so how can it be wrong but also, how would you play it?” So I grabbed the bass from him, showed him the riff, and asked if he had any lyrics for the song. A couple of takes and a bottle of wine later, our song, Unlucky 13, was born and so was our little noise making machine that is wht.rbbt.obj. There’s a prevailing assumption that making music with your romantic partner is a recipe for trouble, but we’ve found that making music together makes us stronger, better, more in love. It’s not only just a deep passion for the music, but for one another and I’m glad we continue to gamble on this thing we’ve made together.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Supporting local musicians and artists is not merely an act of patronage; it is a celebration of diversity, a recognition of the unique narratives woven into the fabric of our neighborhoods. Attend local gigs, frequent art exhibitions, and explore the myriad talents residing in your community. In doing so, you not only bear witness to the artistic journey but become an integral part of it.
Financial support is undoubtedly crucial, but the value of spreading the word and championing local artists cannot be overstated. Social media platforms, community events, and word of mouth can serve as powerful amplifiers for their work, helping their voices reach a wider audience.
The support of local musicians and artists transcends transactional exchanges; it is an investment in the collective spirit of a community. By recognizing, celebrating, and championing the talent within our midst, we cultivate a society where art flourishes, fostering a profound connection between creators and their audience. In doing so, we build not only a vibrant cultural landscape but a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression in shaping the identity of our communities.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As a group, our primary objective revolves around the continuous creation of exceptional music that resonates with people on a profound level. Together, we strive to produce compositions that not only showcase our artistic prowess but also establish a meaningful connection with our audience. The overarching goal is to consistently deliver musical pieces that transcend boundaries and leave a lasting impact, fostering a shared experience that unites us with those who appreciate our craft. This collective pursuit of crafting impactful and resonant music forms the cornerstone of our artistic journey, as we endeavor to forge enduring connections through the power of our creative expression.
