We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rita Pardo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rita, appreciate you joining us today. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Family emergencies and sickness. You don’t exactly write them in your business plan so when those unexpected events happen you have to figure out how to navigate. In 2017 I had heart surgery, my husband got in a really terrible accident that caused him to lose his leg and suffer other issues and my mom died. I felt like why is so many things happening at one time. I was tired, exhausted, frustrated and on several occasions I felt alone. However I did have a support team and a strong faith in Jehovah God.
Rita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started by business in 2014 on accident. I retired from my job because my oldest daughter needed one on one care. Being unemployed was something I wasn’t used to so I decided to go on the journey to find some natural skin products for my daughter’s eczema. I started making a body butter to help her skin and it cleared up!!! So we at Pardo Naturals offer natural skin care, hair care, home care, cleaning care and pet care. We literally have something for everyone. I’m most proud of my features in various articles such as buzzfeed, The Spruce, Readers Digest(just to mention a few). I want people to notice that our brand cares about our customers as individuals and we actually become family.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Definitely when Covid started. I had to pivot to provide what customers needed at that time. I started providing more online classes and sharing tips about hair care at home and self care.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media means you have to be social so that’s basically what you have to do….BE SOCIAL. Engage with your customers, say hello and mention them by name when possible. Also ask your audience what they would like to see more of or just look at accounts that are related to yours and see what they are doing. Don’t copy them tho put some originality into it.
